I just wanted to thank you. Been personally having a rough couple of weeks (months really), and I had planned to just bunker at home instead of going to Denver for the show. I thought of this post and wrangled the energy to get my ass out the door tonight. YOB was amazing and that was some much needed catharsis - go figure...
Glad that you got out and recharged your batteries, brother!
Best of luck in overcoming the rough patch, man. You over came the momentum and summoned the inner fire and got yourself moving. Use that momentum and roll right over the BS in your path! Good luck, man!

Man, I wanted to make it out to that show. So many great shows come through Denver but it is tough for me to make it out on a week night.
Amen to that. I made it to one show this year during the week, almost fell asleep. Next day was brutal. Though I work at a shop with 3am starts...really wish I didn't.
Yeah week day shows are basically impossible for me too. Bellwitch played right down the street here a few months ago and I couldn’t get off.

re: Khemmis, they're good just not my cup of tea. When I say they're trying to please the listener, I mean their melodies are saccharine in a way that isn't appealing to me. I have respect for them though!

I was there too, it was amazing! though I swear bell witch had an amp out, at least on the first song. There seemed to be no bass in Dylan's bass
Hola amigos, I know it's been a long time since I rapped at ya.....
Been on a long vacation. Drove up through NorCal, Oregon & WA seeing some sights, then got on a boat to Alaska to tie the knot with Mrs. Cornfarmer, flew to a glacier to walk on it and drink from the ice flow, ate some pretty bland cruise ship food, surprisingly didn't drink that much, then caught somebody's crud on that goddamn boat and have spent almost a week feeling like warmed over rotting dead things......fuggin' stay away from Royal Carribean. No bass content, so suck it!
oh, and I see Korladis is gone (again)
I dig the new Khemmis. I can see that they aren't necessarily a straight ahead "doom" band, but how many of those do we have already? I like the dynamics in the song writing and actual singing.I'm pretty sure no thought went in to trying to please you

Is this bass tone just straight up P-Bass to over driven tube amp, or do you think there is a pedal in there?
Agreed, that label doesn't really apply to them at this point (nor a lot of bands somehow situated in the subgenre). There was good discussion on TB recently about labels and subgenres and, at the end of the day, labels can be helpful in seeking out new music, but also harmful and limiting for both the band in listener. For example; one may not like, say, My Dying Bride, yet they see the doom label associated with them, so they assume they wont like Candlemass or St Vitus. (which would be a bummer, because those bands rule)
To me, especially around the 2:30 mark, it sounds like there is an effect. I mean, P's growl a lot on their own and a driven tube amp can add some dirt but not THAT.
I like how defined it is. It is an aggressive tone that doesn't loose its articulation or become harsh. That's why I'm trying to figure out what it might be. I have the feeling I can't get that sort of tone or a Leo Smee\Cathedral tone without a SVT or Orange.
