You guys have a good idea about Jazz pickups? I discovered that my favourite fuzz- Dwarfcraft Necromancer- doesn't play nice at all with the EMG JAs in my Jazz. I was thinking about switching over to a set of Lace Man O' Wars, just canvassing for any other worthy options.

I think in our last census people seemed to be fans of dimarzio model js. Ive never actually tried them though. Im more of a p bass or music man guy myself

I built a room for my rehearsal space. Pretty sound resistant in that if you’re farther than my driveway, you can only really hear drums distinctively, and then only quietly. Guitars don’t make it past the halfway point of the drive, and I’m in a subdivision. I just got thick insulation and put it in the walls and ceiling (it’s a basement). Gets a little warm after a few hours playing, but not bad.

Saw Kyuss open for Faith No More in ‘92. Couldn’t believe my ears how close they got to old Sabbath. Clutch,sleep, EW, followed. I stopped listening to heavy new music for several years as nu metal and other sh!t started to hit. Glad I came back cuz a lot older dudes I know have “good ole daze”syndrome and don’t think anything is worth listening too past tool.

Never been a big clutch fan. Never could get past his southern preacher vocals. Grew up with southern preaching, makes me feel dirty in a not good way lol.

Same boat here, although I don't mind a lot of the lyrics I can see where you're coming from. Some of they're stuff is good but just never really cared for em.

I never understand those people, there's so much amazing stuff out there that's new. I don't know how many bands I've heard that are new and kill it.

I haven't tried any aftermarket pups, but I've heard good things about the model J's. I think they are supposedly thicker sounding.

In one of the pickup threads s one one had said that the Model J was the most akin to a thicker precision sound, so if that’s your target then that’s your answer.

I got a new pickup in my parts P bass, re-did the shielding around the pup, rewired the thing with 500k pots and finally ditched the ancient gross white pick guard. The bass sounds a hell of a lot better. Way easier to get some nice growl out of it as well. I ended up going with SDB-3 as that was all I could find locally here.
I have NO idea what was in this thing before, I assume it was the stock pickup but so far its a massive change for the better.

Sure do! I have to go get new knobs for it today as my old ones don't fit the shafts of the pots. But its a massive improvement on the sound. So much more growl! This bass has been kind of an interesting instrument... the neck and body the only original things on it and even that took some work to get it straight and to fix the frets and stuff. This used to be one of my friends and he tried to de-fret it so it was missing a bunch of frets and the fretboard was kinda chewed up so its been a very long slowly evolving project.

Beautiful!. I would put chicken head knobs on there, just my take though, Im wired differently. The SD's are a major improvement. Ive got the SD Quarter Pounders on my Squier P/J and its night and day difference in comparison. I pulled out my Jazz pup and routed in a Thunderbird neck pup, insane but like I said Im wired differently

That a Hipshot Kickass bridge?
How do you like it?
I've an Leo Quan BadassII bridge that those are based on my Samack. I bought my to combat neck-dive. Otherwise I never noticed a big improvement in the things a bridge is supposed to do.
They do look sharp though.

Yep, it sure is! I got it because i couldn't make the spring for the G-string saddle not buzz. It also happened to help a ton with neck dive. Only minor gripes I have with it are the weight (tho neck dive... so /shrug) and i had to cut down the already short adjustment screw for the E string to get the intonation even close.

I dig the dark MoP pick guard. I have always thought about doing that. I like the Kickass bridge on my Peavey Forum. Good design.

You might want to try the Nordstrand big singles in place of a J pickup they really cut through a heavy mix. I have them on my MTD KZ now and they have a huge midrange growl. They definitely don't sound vintage AT ALL though so it may not be your thing depending on what style of stoner/doom your going for.

I like just about anything heavy these days, but it’s taken a while for some of the genres. I was all about thrash, melodic death metal, black metal, etc. at various points. I didn’t get deep into this doom stuff until 5 years ago or so. Right about the same time I needed pedal advice from you gents here on TB...

Nowadays, I go in quick spurts of all sorts of heavy. A week on doom, couple of days in thrash, and so on. It’s a good rotation.

I agree, I rotate between Doom, Stoner, 70's Progressive and Psychedelic. I find it prevents the creative process from getting stale. Varying influences help breed originality. The 4 members of my band share a common bond when were creating but outside of that were all from completely different worlds.
