Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

I forgot one of my all time favorite albums, Blast Tyrant. I really liked them until Beale Street to Oblivion. Just kind of drifted away from them after that. Missed Strange Cousins and Earth Rocker. I did like the few songs I heard off Psychic Warfare.
I liked the new Clutch, actually. After one pass, I enjoyed it more than most of the recent albums. That said, I haven't really been much of a fan since self-titled (with the exception of blast tyrant, that one was good)
I got into this genre through mastodons blood mountain album. Found mastodon and then neurosis, neurosis to a storm of light then before you know it im eating trees and zoning out to dopesmoker
I discovered the genre via 2 sources: Sleep, specifically Holy Mountain. Being a Sabbath devotee, I was recommended Sleep by my brother.
Also somewhat independently, I had stumbled on Electric Wizard via again, Sabbath. I remember first hearing Dopethrone and hating it. I guess it grew on me. Lol.
I've found some of my favorite music are artists/albums that first made me go 'double u tee eff' but had something that kept fascinating me.

Earth Rocker is quite good. probably my favorite post Robot Hive era.
I find that the music I listen to, I wouldn't want to play.. the music I enjoy playing isn't really what I listen to on a regular basis. I think I'd enjoy playing stoner/doom, so far nothing I've listened to has really stuck in my ear... yet...
Although I am in the Stoner/Doom genres there have been dozens of bands that sounded great......for a week, tons of forgettable offerings out there. These artists Ive attatched are the ones that never grow old at least for me.
yeah i enjoy playing more than listening. mostly because the scene is so diluted with little to no originality. you really have to sift through a lot of mefiocre cookie cutter bands to find a gem here and there.
It's awesome that musicians are able to take more control over things, and less involvement by large corporations/A&E wonks/Promoters... The down side is that there's just too much to slog through... It's the promise and curse of freeer markets....
I think it's overall a good thing for most people.
I feel sorry for the derps that only listen to media spoon fed to them by the remains of the old music world.. on the other hand... **ck em if they can't be bothered to step outside the narrow confines of whatever is trendy these days....

As players of loud music, what have y'all used for soundproofing? I feel like this is the only place on TB that would get what I am talking about regarding my soundproofing needs.
We moved to a new house and I'd like rehearse in my basement. It is already finished, and i can't afford to do a room w/in a room. I'm thinking of trying 1" foam insulation panels on exterior walls and all doors, then hanging overlapped and double up'd moving blankets around all of the walls. Thoughts?

It cant hurt, itd absorb some of it and help muffle it to the outside . Real soundproofing is a process with raised dampened floors and walls inside of walls. We practice in a concrete basement and you can hear us all over the park across the street on the garage door side, but its not so bad from the other angles. Cushioning didnt seem to do much for us, so in the end we gave up. Some decent absorption can help the room sound better though.
Thumbs up for With the Dead. I know they aren't the most original, but Dorian's pessimism is so genuine.
There's many ways to go about this. Best idea is to start googling/reading, then figure out how far you're willing to go as far as construction and outlay of cash. Sounds like the room is an interior room....? A simple thing you could possibly do is take off the existing drywall, fill in with the best sound proofing insulation you can afford, then reinstall the old drywall, then (maybe) add a 2nd layer of Quiet Rock drywall on top of that, then tape the joints, finish up with paint, etc.
Edit - if the door is hollow, replace it with a solid one.

*Also I really loved Psychic Warfare- Is the new Clutch similar then? Because I'm absolutely down for more of that. They're playing here in December and they were great last time.

You guys have a good idea about Jazz pickups? I discovered that my favourite fuzz- Dwarfcraft Necromancer- doesn't play nice at all with the EMG JAs in my Jazz. I was thinking about switching over to a set of Lace Man O' Wars, just canvassing for any other worthy options.
Windhand, So very good, they down to one guitarist?. He seems to come and go.
Four piece, last I heard.
They play Bristol in March so I guess I'll see for myself.
