Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

I knew the government was recording my dreams. I'm gonna need to re-up on tinfoil after work today...

I have a Turbid North (a death metal band that isn't doom\stoner in any way) shirt with a goat, frog, and cat dressed as a priests\popes, using a human body as a bong. I don't know who came up with that one, but it is the most epic $#!+ ever. It is also a very "busy" illustration, so you have to take a moment to actually make out what it is. So awesome.

I'm way too old for pot-related clothing (how do I explain that to my kids), nor do I know what this band sounds like but I still want one of these shirts coz it makes giggle.

Makes me think of the time i bought a sleep shirt. Yes, they actually had 1 design that didn't have a huge mj leaf on it. For the same reason, too old and I have 3 kids: 8, 5, 1.

I had a Sleep shirt but my cousin stole it along with a bunch of other things when he moved out of the spare bedroom and into his girlfriends place a couple of states away. I still have my denim jacket with the cutoff sleeves and an Electric Wizard Dopethrone back patch on it though.

Not sure if mastodon is too mainstream for this thread but this set they did on this tiny stage with scott kelley is pretty amazing.

With Cult of the Lost Cause, I played a 5 string p-bass exclusively. Since we put things on ice last Feb, I needed a change. I've been playing four stings for the past year and I love it! I've been enjoying the challenge of doing the most I can with four stings. This was largely inspired from a Bell Witch interview I heard. I realize this is ironic because Dylan Desmond plays a six-string, but it makes sense in context.

For the past few months, I've also been using an SVT-CL. I liked the SVT because it was usable at lower volumes for basement jams, where my Sunn 300T is always balls-out. Ultimately the Sunn 300T is just more my thing so I sold the SVT last night. Once a sell a few pedals, I'll pick up my V4 from the repair shop and that'll be perfect for lower volumes.

I think last year they did a full tour doing songs that Scott Kelley had a feature on over in europe. Im glad they ended up getting a good quality video/recording of it even if its a short set.

I was referencing Marty Scurll, but I love Scott too! Saw him do his acoustic set with like 20 other people. Life changing.

I still dig them. Some people just like to dump on a band when they start making money. Are they ever going to do Remission or Leviathan again? No. Accept it and move on. There is still some very creative music happening on their last few releases.

Never been a fan, I didn't like too much Remission and Leviathan either (which I find anyways more interesting than the latest stuff )...

For me their latter-day albums were too much more filler than killer, but I still dig the videos and stand-out tracks but I fell off the bandwagon after seeing them fall flat live too many times.

Am a big Neurosis / Kelly fan though, and thought that set was really good. Thanks for posting it.

i did not really like mastodon at first. then Crack the Skye came out and changed everything. After that i ended up appreciating the older stuff more. i like all their albums but once more around the sun is kind of weak. Emperor of Sand was by far my favorite album of 2017.

the thing about them is there is no BS and no egos, no clichés. I liken them to a modern version of Rush in how they ineract with each other and the public. they seem like good people that are inspired to write music for the fun of it compared to a band like Electric Wizard who seem to half-ass a new album when they need attention.
