Because suddenly it's cool again? The thing is, the Swedish chainsaw setting sounds like absolute ass, I don't really understand it's appeal at all.

I keep mine dialed in around like what Godflesh's bassist used (or, as I will now refer to it, "the Birmingham Bludgeon" sound), which gives it a little more extreme end and this excellent little snarl at the end. Honesty, anywhere along the dials sounds better than 10's across the board.

I've been spending my summer learning how to use my 3d printer. Not as cool as a motorcycle, but at least I can crap out my own upgrades and not get greasy installing them. :)

If you’re looking for super simple, it fits the bill nicely. There is a smidge of low end rolloff as you crank more gain, but not much. That’s been the main cause of my love/hate with it, but I’ve realized that it’s so minor the loss isn’t even noticeable to anybody listening, unless you’re A/Bing specifically for that. If you’re unaware, the MXR Distortion + and Ross Distortion are basically the same as the 250 too. They’e all just a few cap values different is my understanding.

I even love chainsaw tones, but man, I can’t do everything maxed. My bass sounds terrible! Still working on a usable HM-2 tone for bass, and I think it’s in the Throat Locust, but I haven’t had time or the need to figure it out.

On guitar, since the gain maxes pretty much at 10:00, I set the gain at noon (higher settings just add more feedback), hi at 4:00ish, max low and volume to taste. Gives a good chainsaw tone that isn’t feedback city (with a gate, of course).

Welp, tossed out the "bassist looking for heavy siht" add on CL. This will be a hilarious disaster I'm sure.

I didn't get anything tracked out with my buddy yesterday but we spent like 6hrs shaging around with tone, pedals, a buncha different combos of basses and just jamming. Tons of trading off melody/rhythm and exploring what a two basses can do. His computer managed to not play nice with reason and we had some issues getting sound from the master mixer out to the AIO, but eeh, ish happens.

Its hella good to play with people again!

I posted a while ago about D standard tuning. Thank you all for the help. I installed Power Slinkys on my Spector, and played through a GK-800 Amp Sim it's the exact 'Alice in Chains'/Stoner Metal sound I was looking for. There's still some set-up wonkiness I'm dealing with (bass was left in a case for 4 years, restringing, cleaning, travel) so I may have a few follow up questions.

In the meantime, thank you all very much for the help.

That sucks. You going to exchange it or get a partial refund or something?

I swirl painted my bass project but the plastic tote I used cracked and split right in the middle of everything. So it got sort of double dipped. I really like the way it came out, it's just not what was planned. I'll get a pic of it when I clear coat it. It made a big mess in the yard when it leaked too, I'm glad I didn't have my new boots on.

The seller said to just send it back, so that's what I'm going to do. It's a real bummer because I was psyched about the bass. Those boxes they come in do not seem sturdy enough for the br00tality of shipping...I don't know why someone would use it without adding a bunch more packing material inside.

Bummer to hear that, I've played a couple of those and they're pretty good sounding. I liked the growl it had quite a bit...

Thats good! Bob Ross would be proud of the happy little accident. Glad it came out well, lookin forward to pics.

Good to know, gonna keep my eyes peeled. I thought I was alone on that opinion of 810's. They're nice and all, but I've been able to get the same heft with many other cabs.

Quite nasty, almost too much when all the way up, and a little thin on bass. But, the TK421 works pretty well on it, so it still might make it on the board.

Can't stop laughing about the Ron super fuzz! I need that, even if I never use it. The outtakes with him are out of this world.

I know this isn't stoner/doom style, but I trust the S/D thread for metal info so I'm asking here...

I'm wondering about this sort of tone:

My question isn't just about what he's using, though, but more what are the general components of this sort of tone. Is there a specific pickup type or effect that plays the biggest part in that tone? Is it mostly just the use of a pick? Something else?
