I've been listening to Colored Sands and Pleiades' Dust a lot lately...hence that bass tone being on my mind.

I opened for Dysrhythmia a few years back. Colin was super cool and sounded amazing! I think a lot of the sound is modern pickups, a fairly flat EQ, aggressive picking, light drive/distortion (in this case from the Morley) and new strings.
Other than that, there is something to be said for Colin's note choice: He is a master of quickly creating tension using chords and double stops over chord movements without too much resolution.

No idea on that tone, but I just put Colored Sands on as I've never heard any of their stuff before, digging the album so far!
I'm not proud of it, but it's the type of stuff I would've dismissed out of hand not long ago. Not because of any bias against the music/genre, but because I just assumed I wouldn't like it after getting turned off to the technical stuff by a lot of the really lame technical death metal bands. As with any genre, though, there's good and bad. I just wish I could finally learn that lesson after making the same mistake countless times.

Sounds a bit like some OD driving the dirt pedals as well. There is a ton you can do running some OD into another drive pedal or distortion. Tons of cool sounds!

Totally! there is some good stuff in the genre, but like anything takes some digging to get the good stuff away from the chaff.

Can anyone offer me any advice? Im finally to upgrade all my gear from my beginner setup and decided on getting a Orange terror. Can anyone recommend some cabs that might be good for this. Currently my playing is in my room with headphones but I want something I can add on to later on when I, hopefully, will play at small shows.
Budget would be about 450 or about 50 a month if it offered a payment plan. Tone wise Im not 100% sure how to describe what I want. Are there some popular ones out there in my range?
Also if anyone has spotify or youtube playlist of some good ass bass that would be dank as shag.

You would get more useful advice for the cabs if you gave some hints of the sound you're after and your budget IMO

What are you looking for size wise? Also, new? used? If you're willing to go used, shop around on CL or local used music stores or GC's used section. You can snag some good deals on serviceable gear that way. Around the Bay Area we can snag 410's for 150-200ish pretty frequently if you look around. They're a pain in the ass to move though...
So Ive been really looking into these Ampeg V4B reissues. If anyone has experience with both the original and reissue, do they sound relatively the same? Are there any drawbacks to one or the other? I’m really interested in getting one and maybe splitting my live signal into the direct I’m using now and micing the V4B.

I had one that was a 76 ish original. Cool tone not like an SVt. I sold mine to buy an svt though. Wouldn’t put out enough clean volume at the time I thought I needed. Now I wish I still had it because it looked better on top of my 810 than my 2 pro and I could overdrive it. Short of an outdoor show no sound guy has let me turn mine up high enough to get it good and grindy.
Our guitarist has a couple vintage ones that he used to use regularly in our band. He bought a reissue so he didn't have to take his vintage gear on the road. The sound was noticably different. The vintage amp just sounded better overall with his guitar. However, I plugged my bass into the reissue and I thought it sounded really good. Different than an SVT but still cool and vintage and warm. Subsequently, I tried using it at a gig shortly there after; the lack of power became immediately apparent, and the amp was sold or returned. We play a little quieter these days in part because we have better stage sound situations... so I maybe could get away with it now... maybe.

I have an early 70's V4B and it's pretty much my favorite amp. It's been loud enough, even in a loud trio I used to play with. Best used with a 2x15.
