Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

It kind of does if you take a look at some of the general attitudes they have towards a number of things, how they treat people (esp women) in this case.

Oh noes, there goes mah safe space...

Pmuch. I generally have the communication skills of a log so sometimes I'll try to crack jokes and uh, it doesn't work. That whole engineers sense (or lack of...) of humor thing. -_-

Anyways, uh, I'm 99% joking, that tinnnyyyyyy little 1% is going to involve sending someone a lot of pine trees or sending my wife to "talk" with someone
rather than pine trees can i recommend (nsfw) https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou...FjAAegQIARAB&usg=AOvVaw1xxN9n2n11RbCPK4qgQbdd

But what of TWO women? In a RELATIONSHIP? I mean, which one of you is subservient to the other as the Bible dictates?

Also, because my humor is rather tree-like as well, I just want it known that this is a joke. You do you, @rutrho

Ah, I see now :(

I've never read spent any time in the thread so didn't know any of that. I'll fall back to what I said earlier:
49 year old me is constantly and consistently let down by my fellow human beings.

Sorry you had/ have to endure that kind of :poop:
eeeh, it is what it is. My general response to that sort of stuff when it happens in person is way way more aggressive. My hope here is my homies can see the failings or other things and grow as people and as a community.

This thread, while it has plenty of face palm worthy moments is still one of the better groups of folk here. Esp given my queer female self.

My personal interpretation is that if Levitical law doesn't explicitly mention women being with women as an abomination, like it does men, then the big g o d must be down with it.
Of course that is probably the exact sort of bro-tastic logic that causes women to ditch men in the first place. But in all seriousness, it is an interesting oversight worthy of discussion. One probably for another day.

I'll steal this usage of "P&W" from now on :roflmao:

RIGHT. Like. I have some amazing friends who are very devout in their faith, as well as super conservative coworkers and somehow we all get along.

While the long standing feud between the doom crew and the P&W folks is really funny to me, we have way more in common than we don't. Y'all here are a lot less condescending towards female folk tho, which is rad.
Generally I've gotten similar vibes from other metal musicians as well, even given how much of a challenge its been trying to find a group to play with.

Metal fans on the other hand... well. yeah.

I practice all of this, but I'm still only sometimes able to maintain my sanity, unfortunately. I avoid a lot of the news, but there are many issues I feel I am obligated to pay attention to; those that affect the future well being of my daughter, at the very least, maybe myself, if I am feeling arrogant that day. Even a small dose of "news" is enough to make any decent human being sick. I can't not pay attention to the world around me, as living in my own diluted, ignorantly blissful reality, isn't real, and it isn't living. I wish I could just look out for just me and mine, but the damage we do when we are only concerned about ourselves is devastating to others. Anyway, none of this is really a reply to what you wrote; those are all good strategies for surviving a broken world... just sharing my general feelings on the world around us.
It's not getting better and sometimes music doesn't seem like nearly enough of a distraction.
I don't actively ignore the news. I'm a history, poli-sci, geopolitics nerd, so watching it unfold in real time is too hard to resist for me. I've learned over the years to source stuff carefully, and learn the difference between data, analysis and opinion. Since I'm a creature of that particular swamp, it doesn't phase me too much.
Gorging myself on information has given me an annoying knack for prediction. My wife hates watching TV with me because I will say exactly what the person on the screen will say in a few seconds. Maybe one of the most depressing things is how predictable human behavior is.

It is an odd world we created for ourselves. None of this is what we thought would happen, but in hind sight, could have only turned out as things have. I'm also an IT nerd and I remember the halcyon dreams the first wave of Silicon Valley boys had about the internet. A new digital library of Alexandria they thought. Bringing people together they thought.
They ignored history. When man learned how to split the atom what was the first thing we used it for? Weapons. There is an old story that one of the first nickelodeon reels was a strip tease. Of course we turned the digital wild west of the internet into a place of theft, verbal harassment, and pornography. Duh!

You know what the fun part is? I'm like this even without watching the news. How f'ed up is that?

But the positive stuff is out there, it's just a matter of sifting through everything else, right?

I have the feeling you want me to say yes...so sure.
TB is a singular island of civility in the stormy seas of the internet. So there is that.
I use FB almost exclusively for family and real, immediate friends. A few years ago I had to dump a lot of people because I just couldn't take the rubbish on my news feed. As a musician trying to get out there, it is suicide, but FB is much more enjoyable for it.
YouTube is great for demo videos, game tips, home repair tips, and car repair tips. That is cool. Anything that involves one person in a computer chair talking to a camera is usually best left unwatched. Although I did learn that compilations of women burping make me laugh like an idiot. I can't explain that.

Youtube car repair videos are amazing. They're fantastic for helping get stuff apart like dashes and doors apart or anything with lots of little stupid plastic clips. Youtube taught me how to do a clutch in a car so there is some good on the internet. Some.

...But for the rest of it...
As I see it, the biggest changes from internet in the 90s to the 2000's to now is that the anger and BS is much more profitable. Profitable in capital gains, profitable in being able to win the minds of people, profitable in being swaying large groups of people. The constant information warfare thats being waged right now that people aren't aware of is kinda spooky when you take a couple steps back and start seeing it for what it is.

Yes, hell any diy/fix it/remodeling type youtube vids are super helpful. I've learned how to do all kinds of stuff I never would have been able to do just from reading a book.

I do like that the internet has opened the world to me. For example, just here in this thread I can chat with like-minded people from literally the whole world. Pretty mindblowing, actually.

This^ That opens up a whole discussion that would, unfortunately and surely, get our thread closed.

I’m going to post a couple of cheap pedals in the classifieds, but figured I’d check here first if y’all were interested. I’m looking for a fuzz or distortion. Whatever really. I’m just wanting to try stuff out.

Yep. I'm pretty stoked most of us here can see that its not a good discussion to have, heh.

Also. FUZZ. What sort of sounds are you looking for?

Hmm, I read/watch the news, but I'm particular about my sources. It's usually NPR and the BBC. The former is so non-sensational, it's a common joke about how mild they are. The latter used to be the same, but appears to have gotten more sensationalist (and commercial). I use some other sources for topic specific news (such as this thread!), but either way, my news is pretty dry and information-heavy. If those sources present opinion or entertainment news, it's generally specifically described as such.

As far as social media: nope, I generally don't do it. No FB or twit or instagram account. If anything really important happens there, it'll get reported elsewhere eventually. It's a string of AOLs trying to develop their own walled garden, in my view, and I think they'll be as successful, long term*. Besides, I don't want that level of detail in anyone else's life, and I don't want anyone to have that level into mine. I like folks, but it's a part-time thing.

General philosophy on getting enraged at the world: Life is a series of problems. Your problems will be over when you're dead, and not one minute before. Enjoy your problems, they'll always be there. If you can solve one: do it, enjoy that moment of joy and endorphins while you can, and move on to your next problem. I get angry like anyone else, but when I can stop the rageohol for a second, I realize it usually ain't helping - but sometimes it works amazingly well if used in large amounts in sparing, specific situations. Oh, and enjoy the small stuff when you can. A clean pipe and a nice fuzz can never be underrated.

It ain't a perfect philosophy, but it works for me.

As far as pairing up and bumping uglies, my advice is this: if you can't find people smarter than you are to be infatuated with, then try to find someone more responsible than you are. I'm plenty smart, but I'm not really that responsible. My wife's plenty smart in her own right, but she's also responsible. About a year into our marriage, we both realized this. I can go into details, but that's not really interesting. The short story is that I'm really useful in an advisory position, but not much else. She wears the pants, and I come up with interesting ideas. If she's got a hard problem to figure out how to take care of in her (or our, I've troubleshot more ad art from an unqualified position than I care to consider) personal or professional life, I'm the person to at least use as a sounding board - if I can't solve it in a sentence, I can at least be confused in a constructive manner. I know my role in the relationship. If I was the more responsible one, I'd try to find someone else more responsible (maybe a really smart dog). Failing that, I'd try to find someone smarter and learn to buckle down. Within those constraints, grab someone with the reproductive organs that suit your fancy and smarten up or get more responsible as the situation requires over time.

Or don't. I mildly burned myself by lighting the end of an empty Everclear bottle after cleaning a pipe tonight. That makes it clear I might have the maturity of 17 year old on a good day, if I'm lucky. I've been married for a couple of decades and change, but your life isn't mine.

I’m honestly pretty open. Since changing up my head and cab, I’m pretty much starting fresh again with tones. I went from Aguilar AG700 with a GS212 to a GK 400RBiii and a GK212 neo. I still have my Darkglass B7 Ultra, but it’s got a pretty specific use anymore. It doesn’t really factor in to my normal setup. A muff style fuzz would be pretty awesome I think, but I’d be more open to suggestion than set on any one fuzz.
