If I remember correctly, the Carcosa is a Super Fuzz, right? It's my second favorite fuzz circuit so far.

Not sure. Mine is a kit BYOC [Build Your Own Clone] Leeds Fuzz. I use it with about 50/50 blend via a Boss Line Selector pedal.

Never mind. The Carcosa is a modified Maestro FZ-1S. Whatever it is, it’s great! Don’t think I’ve tried a Super Fuzz. Perhaps my next dirt black hole?
Seriously, I own a Univox one, and several clones. If you don't want to plunk down a lot of cash, there's lots of cheap clones that are glorious, indistinguishable in a mix, and all have their own charm. I've kind of fallen in love with my Danelectro French Toast, but the Behringer SF300 is cheap and gets you in that ballpark.
I kind of want to plunk down the cash for a Danelectro Eisenhower Fuzz. Just because I have a problem. But similar to the Big Muff circuits, there's a lot of nice inexpensive clones running around out there.
That's Maestro's interpretation of the Super-Fuzz, from what I understand.
All this superfuzz talk is making me think about messing with my Dwarfcraft Necromancer.

Damn I've wanted a slothead EB3 for a while. This sounds so shaging good.
for muffs i've really only come across a few that worked for me; Grey Stache, Eau Claire Thunder/Baby Thundaa and Bluebeard.

I went through quite a couple of muffs: EQD Cloven Hoof, DBA Fuzz War (was it a muff? can't remember, but always thought so), Swollen Pickle, Russian Pickle, EHX BBM, EHX Russian reissue, original EHX Black Russian, and the only one that withstood the test of time is the Russian Pickle. It's the only one I still own, although I regret selling quite a few (mainly the Fuzz War and the Black Russian).
I do know the Ron Swanson Fuzz from Idiotbox is a straight-up Univox superfuzz.
Yeah those are no joke. I've never played a neck I love as much as this one. 1.5" at the nut with this narrow but deep U shape. I sometimes wish it had an extra fret or 2 [only 19 frets].
If you ever get one, I highly recommend clipping the extra capacitor thats choking off some highs. Takes 3 seconds, no rewiring required, just snip snip. Opens up the pick up. I'd also heartily recommend using a HPF on your board, to kill off the super-duper subsonics from wasting the amp's power.
For all the grief mudbuckers get for being boomy, the cap mod highlights how strong they are not necessarily in the deep lows but the lower mids. My 'clean' tone is still angry distorting low mids if I play hard, and thats thru a super clean and efficient modern rig. Suits me fine as it is the sound in my head.
I got mine for a great deal from gc's online used stuff. The 'L' versions of the slothead EB-3s are much pricier. I've played a later 72-73 EB-3L and the bridge pup is a very cool almost jazz bass sound. Neck was very similar too.If I saw one and had the funds, I'd be all over it.
If you like the necks and want short-scale, also look at the Epiphone Newports from the 60s. They are basically an EB-0 with that skinny neck the slothead gibbos had.
All this talk of muffs is reminding me to finish my mod project. Unfortunately I forgot to order the LEDs I wanted last time I put an order at musikding. I was gonna do bi-colour LEDs that would normally be yellow but turn red when holding the feedback button. I think that's the last materials I needed. Remind me to keep better bills of materials around lol

And would probably wire it for stereo output. Cause I'm a heathenous nerd.
The first edition Dano Cool Cat fuzz is another muff clone afaik. It's worth buying if you can find one cheap, it doesn't seem to roll off any lows which is good. But the enclosure sucks.
just wired this all up and am pretty excited to use it tomorrow night at practice. I'm not sure if the density hulk will stay, will likely switch out to the smaller version if so. I also have a few dirt pedals and a diff reverb coming my way in a week or so, but this is the basic premise.

I wish I could make a board that small. My OCD makes me want all the toanz available all the time. I think I can play pretty much anything with my board, minus bitcrushers or ring mods. Though I DO have a Gonkulator if ring mod is necessary.
