Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Live Music. HOORAY.

YESSSSSSS. I'm hella jelly, not gonna lie. CA is still fsk'ed :(

Glad someone is out playing :p
Oh, Michigan is still fscked too. None of the usual venues, bars, etc are doing live music. We played in the middle of nowhere. Farmland rural Michigan. The 'venue' was a social club [private], it is a big farmhouse. The stage was outside and so it was more-or-less a big, well put on house party.

A buddies band is playing today in Detroit, but it's at an outdoor skate park. We're trying!

I have the HX Effects and like it a lot. I've thought about switching to the Stomp for the smaller size, but haven't had any burning need yet. Yours is the "Stormtrooper" version right?

In Stormtrooper'esk white!
I'm finding the amp models better than I expected. I when with the stomp for its utility: good for home recording, gives me more control over my tone when I get stuck using someone else's amp and if I have to go di I can feed them a signal i don't hate.
So far all the routing options are a nice surprise.

Zeppelin III turns 50 today. Personally this is my favorite Zepp album (Even though I love them all dearly)
It's my birthday too, though Zep III has 13 years on me. Been listening to it on repeat. Led Zep is still my #1 all time fave band. Though my fave record is Physical Graffiti

Happy Birthday! What a cool album to share it with too. Zep is my number #1 as well (both my name and avatar are Zep related even). I think a lot of bass players, myself included, heard JPJ on the Lemon Song for the first time and were like "oo I want to do something like that". No doubt JPJ was one of the main reasons I picked up a bass in the first place. No Quarter, When the Levee Breaks, All of Zep I and II and other songs really opened me up to heavier music too.

Physical Graffiti used to be my favorite, I even have a poster of the cover that'll be above my record player by the time Apt. decorating is all said and done. Definitely my favorite album art from Zep, uncontested.

Since the Zep's on the subject, what's a good introduction to them? Never gave them much of a listen.

Houses of the Holy is my short answer for anyone with a background in stoner/doom.

Long answer: First three are definitely legendary I agree. Zeppelin IV is the most famous (because it has stairway :meh:). But if you randomly selected a zeppelin album and listened to it front to back you'll find some music you like. Physical Graffiti is kind of a long listen so don't dive into that monster unless you have some more time.

Also for more zep plus a daily dose of serendipity(because of the Zep III Bday): I just revieved this gift from my GF

Unpopular opinion time - I find Zeppelin highly overrated. Not bad, but nothing special. I don’t turn them off or despise them or anything, but I’ve never felt wowed by anything either. Of course, many people say that about my favorite groups, too, I’m sure.

I don’t get the love. Give me Sabbath over Zeppelin any day.

JK of course^ it's okay that we don't have the same favorite band lol

Doesn't seem like an unreasonable opinion in the Stoner/Doom thread.

Btw, Tool's cover of "No Quarter" is pure doom metal....and features some incredible bass playing.

That's my first example of great covers. They did justice to the original while putting a new spin on it. Depending on which way the wind is blowing on a given day I might even say their cover is better than the original.
