Oh I'm not saying Texas is void of heavy music. But considering we're second in the US as far as population you'd think there'd be a larger heavy music scene, but alas. DFW, especially Denton, has it pretty good comparably.

I'm mainly speaking of the live scene and mainly talking about Houston, just because that's where I am though. Even pre corona the only good metal shows you could find were when bigger bands were in town. The local metal scene is extremely small and we're the 4th biggest city in America! I know there's bands around but they can never really get off the ground here. There just aren't many venues that could sell metal. Brash brewing being the only one that I can think of in the region. House shows aren't really common except for the rap scene.

Yeah, ol' buddies of mine went to college in Denton and one stayed.....don't know what it's like today but a while back that area was a ripe scene (@scabpicker attests). I'm sure it still is.

I have a few friends that go to College up there right now and I think it still holds true. That place probably has the best heavy music scene in Texas today. Punk and the new psychedelic rock/pop sound are the most prevalent from what I saw.

Hey PD7 team, I tried stacking it with the Arion Metal Master. The PD7 can get pretty brutal on it's own, and the fcking Arion makes everything twice as brutal.

Not usually much of a stacker, but I love both of these pedals and I meet all of these requirements. I’ll see what I can do this weekend...

So, Arion into PD-7? I actually have two of each of those pedals. I may be busier than anticipated this weekend!

As for Texas, not really… Sorry
As far as "weirdness" is concerned, the last "scene" I was aware of was in Providence, Rhode Island, with Lightning Bolt, Arab on Radar (my favourite by far), Six Fingers Satellite… Load records had a lot of great bands from outside their area as well. Sadly, even this label is defunct. It closed a couple of years ago...

Yeah, I was kind of aware of the RI scene for awhile, even though it took awhile for Lightning Bolt to sink in. I had a friend move to that area in the last year who would be smart enough to find and interested in knowing if there was such a scene happening. I need to give him a call anyway. If he has anything to report, I'll relay it.

The fscked up think about that is, since it's become legal in other states it's no longer cheaper in Texas. My brother can get it cheaper with his medical card in Oklahoma than one can on the black market here. So, if my theory holds, we should have an explosion of odd bands in the next few years.

Yep, I went to school there, and I lived there for years after. Not only is it a mini Austin-ish environment, but UNT's a jazz school, and it has a pretty large art department. So, there's always a new group of people feeding into the area with odd music/performance ideas.

Yeah, even when the rest of the world was pretty much ignoring anything besides grunge, DFW still had plenty of straight ahead metal bands and places for them to play. Heck, hair metal never really died here.

Huh, I wonder if you might've been around there at the same time......drummer buddy (who went to UNT for the percussion school) played in a band called Caulk for a while, then he and guitarist buddy were in Mandarin for many years (I mastered one of their records). I think the nexus in town was a place called Rubber Gloves?......and Sub Oslo was a favorite of theirs. Potheads
