If I ever needed a power amp, DG would be a strong contender. It's got all the bells and whistles, it's portable, and perhaps most importantly, it sounds good on its own.
Yeah, it seems like the ultimate quiet practice and recording tool. Also great for times when I don't want to carry a tube head around. I think they get a bad rap because all of their marketing and demos are only aimed at djent / nu-metal type stuff. I feel like they could market to all kinds of loud and noisy bass players.
For sure. Their clean tones are good. Their vintage tones are good. Their modern tones are good. I don't think there's a category you can't cover with a Darkglass head unless you for some reason need a very specific type of drive, or a specific non-distortive effect.
Now all they need to do is make a wooden head shell that you can slide it into so it looks good on stage and less like an Apple product. Hah!
Definitely agree. I don't go for those type of sounds but I still like the Tone Capsule in my Dingwall.
You don't need to throw in a pedal just to make it do anything helpful beyond plain amplification. The built in stuff is good
I felt exactly the same way; I tried some of their stuff at Namm 2019 and wasnt blown away. But after playing in Europe without my own gear, I needed to find something that would let me control my tone from the pedal board. At Namm last year, I gave them another try and I got really into the alpha omega ultra because the amp sim was badass. It's been a great pedal and Ive used it on a few recordings now. Sadly, my touring days are suddenly behind me so I never really got a chance to run it in the configuration I intended it for. But, none the less, I was won over.
I run a fuzz into the B3K which is always on. That’s the only DG pedal I’ve ever played and loved it from the second I stomped on it.

String finally arrived - here is my small legion of "Stormtroopers". Much like actual stormtroopers, they are cheap, plentiful, and effective. These things play incredibly well and are just comfy. And they only set me back about $250 total! Currently tuned D standard, and they'll likely be used to play Kreator tunes and the like. Drop tuning also sounds nice for some slower doom, so that will definitely happen too.
Next I'll get matching white strap for the bass (because OCD), and I'll likely add the "Imperial insignia" to each - either somewhere by the lower horn or maybe above the bridge. Maybe upgrade the guitar's pickups to something like a Duncan Distortion or Invader (because, well, In"Vader". I'm a dork!). We'll see. Bottom line - I love these things.

Edit: Wow, this is really terrible. He was an absolute legend and I think people are going to look back in awe at his work for a long time. Dude was on an entirely different level.
