Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

i could not get any drive out of the B3K or VMT, they basically stayed clean until the last 10% of the drive pot. They were pretty useless for me. tone wise i don't mind the DG house sound but it does not sound good to me in my applications and I did not want to spend the money on the larger pedals to get more tone sculpting options, so after 3 B3Ks and 2 VMTs i gave up and moved on.

The B3K was the longest-serving pedal on my board at about a decade straight. It was recently replaced by my PD-7 for those clanky tones that Darkglass is known for. That being said, while Darkglass is more than just clank, I found other pedals better for non-clank tones. My modified Pork Loin won out against the Vintage (and various others) and my PD-7 of course beat the B3K. I also had the B7K Ultra at one point. Fastest flip I've ever had. Just couldn't get rid of fizz on the high-end. I found the extra options too much and they got in the way. Of course, I didn't spend months on the pedal, I just knew that my B3K got the tone I wanted for cheaper and much easier. I had hoped to improve on that tone with the B7KU, but that just wasn't the case. Never tried their Duality or A/O circuits.

TL;DR - DG is great and all, but there are plenty of options for similar tones, even if you're not going for clank. In general lately, I seem to be getting into cheaper, more available pedals for my tones. And in many of those cases, the cheaper pedals are winning against some big names. YMMV and all that.

Update because I can't remember when the last time this thread went 48 hours without a post lol. Not a doomy project but I've been able to jam with some guys lately and it's been a lot of fun. The drummer and guitarist are both really experienced players and the guitarist has a lot of starts of songs he wants to build off of. I've been able to keep up but I definitely need to brush up on some more theory. The guitarist is really open to new ideas and stuff too despite most of the songs being his. It's been a good time and I've learned a lot about song crafting just by pretty much basically sitting in with them.

I bought a Russian Pickle a while ago. It's stuck in shipping limbo. About a week ago it was in the neighboring town, then went a few towns over, and is now in a different state... Not sure I like this trend.
I've got a mixing board stuck in limbo. USPS tracking doesn't even show where it's at. It went from the shipper's town into limbo and there's no update since Jan. 1, and no estimated delivery date. I'm pretty pissed that the seller chose to use USPS, particularly when they charged me $50 for shipping. It's not like it's a secret that USPS is a cluster these days...I don't even want to think about it because it really gets me pissed off at this seller.

That sounds like a package my wife bought, though not as expensive. She knows it's been shipped, but that's about it. She bought it a few days before Christmas. If my previous package of a single string is any indication, my Russian Pickle should be here Friday or Saturday. Last time it was about 2-3 days from being out of state and then it got delivered out of nowhere.

Actually USPS is the fastest and cheapest of all shipping options. If they are expensive and slow the other options would have been more expensive and slower.
Typically, I would agree. But the various packages I have ordered the past few weeks very much disprove that. Of course, my few packages are hardly statistically significant, but my other package arrived in 2 days no problem. Before the current holiday season, however, USPS never gave me any more or less problems than any other shippers, and was my preference. I see no reason to think that will change once the current slate of various issues are resolved.

I received a Barefaced Machinist the day after I was basically forced out of my band for not wanting to write, rehearse, and record an album during a global and deadly health epidemic.

Subsequently, I have a brand new unused in the box Barefaced Machinist for sale if anyone is interested (and some nice custom basses and amps)

Damn, that is such a bummer. Sorry to hear it! I’m sure you could walk right into a great gig after this is all over.

Though I've had better luck than most with USPS IMO, I'd still prefer UPS. Right now I'd even choose FedEx (whose home delivery I've not been thrilled with) over USPS.

I hope for your sake that maybe tempers will cool and you'll work things out (unless of course you don't want to be in the band anymore) but if not shoot me a PM with what you're getting rid of.

Dang that's rough. They won't be the same without you.
