Dude, it’s f-ing awful…I am about to break down and quit (just trying to get another job lined up first) bc there’s NOTHING fun about work anymore…

Thank GOD I have music -I can’t tell you how many times I’ve felt like an outsider at work the last few years…

Trying to learn how to play the past year has been VERY therapeutic for me…

I might still be atrocious at playing, but at least it makes me feel better after 8,9, or 10 hours of being told I’m inadequate…

Just don’t fit in with those people no matter how hard I try…

Nice!!!…Van practically has Metal written all over it…

Not in the market for that at the moment, but I could easily see putting a band logo (or several) on the side of that thing…

It looks like an 80s denim jacket just waiting to be turned into a battle vest (lol-Although maybe I’m making that assumption bc I’ve seen the movie Onward???)…

Either way…Nice ride man…

Watched "Get Thrashed!" the other day. Good documentary on the birth and evolution of thrash metal. Doing my usual YT surfing for things last night, and started watching some Geddy Lee vids. Nope, not gonna be emulating him, too fast for my old digits. Same with Geezer. Think I'm going to go with Mark Sandman and just use a slide on really slow mopey songs.

Anyone here use the thumb/index/middle finger "banjo roll" style for plucking? I was messing around with it last night, and it had some interesting results. Oh, yeah, since I'm always late to the party, Bassboysam, I finally started to listen to "Big Sky, Black Horse" (yeah, yeah, I know, years down the road). That's some mighty fine stuff.

That doc sounds right up my alley. Where'd you find it? I need more metal documentaries! I also found one solely about the Bay Area scene called Murder in the Front Row.

I do thumb, index, middle, ring though I revert to index, middle at times. I've been practicing the thumb etc. for several months now and it's becoming more and more natural for me. I've never heard the term banjo roll though (revealing my own ignorance)...I didn't even know there was a name for it, I just associated it with somebody like Matt Garrison.

I've bandied the idea around for a long time, and will use it at home, but, always seem to revert to the regular two-finger pluck when jamming with people. do you guys get a big jump/difference in volume/tone comparing the thumb pluck versus the fingers? I seem to get a pretty good balance between them, for the most part.

I'm still at the stage where I sometimes need to check myself with the exact technique of each finger in order to get the tone/volume relatively even (I don't know that my thumb, for example, will ever sound exactly like my index finger though). The thumb is the toughest to get even because it's shaped so different from the others and attacks the string at a different angle. I can get them pretty even though.

I really like the technique and I feel like it often makes a ton of sense. For example I practice parts of this song (I can't play all of it yet) with this technique:



For the part when the vocals come in, I've been playing it on all four of the first four strings and with the four finger technique I can cover that ground with my right without hardly moving my hand. I've been doing thumb on the fourth string, index on the third, then middle and ring on the first string, back to third string with the middle, fourth string with the index...and repeat something like 16 times :)
