Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

I run my bass into a Boss tuner, then the Boss LS-2 line selecter, to split the signal. Path B is straight to the Quilter side, which is for basically the boom and definition. Path A goes thru the Mountainking Behemoth [slight overdrive] -> Superfuzz -> cheapo Phase 90-> Broughton high pass filter-> Dunlop Bass Wah-> Marshall side. I run the Marshall set 2[bass]-mids[10]-treble[6] on the clean side of the amp.

I've been learning a lot about the 80 years war recently, primarily the many sieges that took place during that conflict. Very interesting stuff to say the least, we never learn very much about such conflicts in American public school history courses because after 1492, even in world history classes, all of the attention is put on the new world. Anyway on to my actual question, are there many fortifications from this era still standing that can be seen today? If they are still standing Which ones are the best to visit for a prospective tourist/history dweeb such as myself?

We have enough castles and forts that date back to those days, many are even older. In addition, many cities cherish all kinds of remains like sections of defense walls, gatehouses, concentric canals with protrusions that accommodated cannons.
The city of Leiden, that I grew up in, is a prime example of all of this. The mid-point of Leiden is De Burcht, which I mentioned earlier. It is a circular wall (the inner buildings have not survived if I remember correctly) built on an artificial hill in a fork of river arms. This is where the city began.
To address your question, I'd try to work out which of all these things played a role in the 80 year war. Are you really visiting my country for this @ConfoundedBridg ?

Like @bobomatic, on the thought of light amps, I would personally love to try the TT. If that power amp (and Boogie preamp) is even remotely close to as good as it's hyped, I would have zero problem with essentially retiring my BTA to studio/practice room/big outdoor gig use only. Hell, when I get back to gigging, I'll probably still use my ABM regularly.
I'm sure I'd have just as much fun with most amps, especially something like a TT and would love to use a PF50 or CTM little stubby for home and studio use. There's something about big tube amps that is special, but it won't ruin the fun not to use em for sure.
I know the feeling. I've wondered about using a bassman 130 or 100T for that reason. Using a smaller cab (pf210) to allow more use of the power section of my BTA has helped too, but yeah it's loud as hell.

ooh, i studied this. This I can answer!
The 80 years war coincidences with what by a period that by historians is called the military revolution. Not only new tactics on the battle field were a part of this (for example the counter march), but also new fortifications that were better at withstanding artillery.
The original designs of these fortifications were developed in Northern Italy in the beginning of the sixteenth century, but were perfected in the Dutch states. A lot of older cities still bare the marks of these fortifications around the city walls (like Leiden, Alkmaar and Haarlem, and a lot of smaller places).
A great place to learn more about it is the Naarden Fortifications Museum (around 20 minutes from Amsterdam), were they go into great detail in the fortifications of this era, but also the developments from there unto after the second world war.
For further reading about the military revolution I would suggest Geoffrey Parker - The Military Revolution.

Heheheh, it was my introduction to the band. I think I found it through Julian Cope's blog ages ago (I think he's since deleted the post). I've listened to their other records for enjoyment, but that one is the one that I'm drawn back to. It's got all the garlic and other spices I require. Let me know what you think of it (or really, anyone else. I think it's a gem.)
I love your profile image not just because I'm a LZ fan and a history freak, but I simply love the expression on his face. It seems inquisitive, surprised and pleased at the same time. The artist that did that portrait was good. Also, the JPJ of the revolutionary war was a determined bastard, ya gotta kind of love that.

Geezer EMGs, HEAVY gauge flats (the SH77s)…So thick they feel like borderline telephone cables…Tight as Hell, so I downtuned a half step for a little extra comfort…Love how thick they are even though they are gonna take some getting used to…
Some thoughts after I went to play a few quick songs after getting the pickups fixed by the luthier…
The body feels like it was cut from that Tree Of The Dead in Sleepy Hollow and the Geezers with a $ - ton of distortion sound like they could open the Gates Of Hell…
^^^This…THIS is what I’ve been looking for in an instrument…I really felt like I struggled to find a Bass Of Doom prior to this Frankenbass…
Suppose I wouldn’t have been sure I liked this a year ago when I had only been playing a few months…
I still love my ESP/LTD, but I friggin love how unapologetically METAL my new P sounds now…
…And yeah I did end up playing a few songs which turned into an hour…
Wife informed me our evening plans with friends had shifted back a bit so I went and played another hour…
Turns out that putting it down was the worst part of an otherwise great Saturday which was mostly composed of listening to and trying to play Metallica, Slayer, Maiden, and Sabbath…
Finger callouses are a bit unhappy w/ me right now, but I still might pick it up again tonight…
Seemed like I went thru a lot of unnecessary drama to get it set up correctly, but REALLY worth it so far…
Love how heavy and primal it feels…Neck is a tiny bit of an adjustment after playing a J width for so long, but love that I can play harder and really dig in…
Bender The OfFENDER is definitely at least 40% Metal as far as I can tell so far…
