I know I was a rather sheltered child, but I was most surprised by the fact the Red Light District actually had red lights. I had assumed it was a turn of phrase, but at least 15ish years ago when I was there, there were plenty of literal red lights.

The company seems to be a one man shop and they do an Acoustic 360 preamp too. I'll report back how the thing turns out.

I had his 360 preamp for some time. Outstanding build quality, he makes great stuff! The sound was as good as the build quality so I don't doubt you'll like it. He's on TB too, and was always real responsive for me.

My Spotify wrapped informed me that my favorite genre was "Post Doom Metal" I didn't have any idea what that was until a hit the playlist to find a bunch of bands somewhat like my band. Doomriders, Cursed, Baptists, FoH, Cult of Luna, and some bands I'd attribute more to to noise/hardcore like Unsane, Chat Pile, Made out of Babies, Whores, Converge, Cloud Rat, etc.

Most annoying about Spotify is that they rarely every tally any of the smaller scale artists I listen to on the regular. I'd put Knockover City in that mix above and while I've probably listened to them more than some of the others on that list, they didn't get included.

I guess I never thought of myself as a doom or stoner person, thanks Spotify.

Got my Volt Thrower clone today. Not sure why I didn't keep it and the ODB before. Took a bit longer to dial in than I thought it would (internal trimmers took some tweaking), but I'm really digging it. May end up replacing my Iron Pig on board #1. I'll likely try and do a "Rat" shootout in the near future between the VT, Iron Pig, and Bass Mountain. All three are fantastic, but the VT seems most dynamic so far. But I get the feeling if I increase the clean on the Iron Pig and up the gain I can get similar tones... And the Bass Mountain is no slouch either!

Anyway, lots of tweaking in my future, and tightening up those Sodom tracks from earlier this week. Got them down in my head and all, now to make them more natural and commit them to muscle memory.

According to the guy who was driving the boat on our canal trip, the red light hides any sores that may be there from STDs. I had no idea.

Well my DiCosimo 800RB pedal came in a few days ago! Some life got in the way of messing with it, the unfortunate demise of a family guinea pig and subsequent funeral, also the need to swap out a broken dishwasher... I was hoping to record something with it already but just now diving in. First impressions - sounds great! Adding some compression and a cab sim in my DAW and it sounds just like my GK 800RB/SWR 810 rig (which I run a compressor in front of).

I have one of the 800RB ones. It's absolutely awesome. It really does sound close enough to my real 800RB that it could fool me, and I've used that amp for ages.

GK really missed an opportunity to make this pedal, but I'm glad DiCosimo did.

Hola amigos, I know it's been a long time since I rapped at ya, but I've got great news...several years back, a complete random stranger and I were making the music together (and lots of it), then for reasons unknown (to me at the time) he abruptly said later bro. Well, 5 years later, we've reconnected and now your ol' buddy cornfarmer has a mission again. Don't know if most of you were around the S/D thread back then, but here's one of the fairly unfinished things I ended up making a video afterwards as kind of a bookend....

Spent my night comparing my Rats (Volt Thrower clone, Iron Pig at 18v, and Bass Mountain). So far, I'm liking the Volt Thrower best, but they are all pretty darn amazing, and I've got them each probably about 90% identical if not more. The biggest difference is in the feel of the VT, as it just seems more dynamic. It also amazes me the amount of tweaking I have to do between amps once I decide one pedal is my #1 variant - which belongs on board #1 and amp #1 (GK 700RB-II). Then I repeat the process between the pedals that are left on board/amp #2 (GK 400RB-IV). The Iron Pig was nice and gritty on the 700RB, but the same settings were nearly clean on the 400RB! Had to tweak the blend mostly, but still shocked me. Clearly been a while since I played that pedal on that amp. But for now, the Iron Pig is #2, with the Bass Mountain an incredibly close #3. Not sure why I ever got rid of the VT a few years ago, or why I didn't get into Rats until recently, but I'm quickly rectifying that. Same thing for the ODB - why did I ever get rid of it? Whatever the reason, neither is going anywhere again!

Random - possibly crazy - thought popped into my head today. What if someone made a pedal with both top AND side jacks? Where you could use either set or even combine the sets for ins/outs? May help some weird pedal routing options. I'm sure it's completely useless for most, but it still intrigues me nonetheless.

Also random thought - in a "combo" style pedal, does the variant of effect matter in the chain? I'm thinking something like the LifePedal where it's a few circuits into each other. What octaver is in that pedal? Which Rat? Boost? What's stopping anyone from just taking their favorite versions of each of those effects and making a their own version? Is there something about making sure the "right" variants of each effect are in a combo pedal?

Thanks for entertaining my stream of consciousness. Been a long few (great, thankfully!) days and my brain is just unloading apparently.

What would happen is that some bozo would connect it wrongly, i.e. use one input as input and the other input as output. Or conversely, use one output as input and the other output as output. In both cases, you would get either no sound at all or all kinds of unpredictable events, possibly including a fire or an explosion.

Said bozo would then publish a YouTube where they completely defame the pedal and its maker. Or they would file a lawsuit which is bad for the manufacturer's reputation as well. That's why manufacturers don't do this. You need to make your stuff fool proof. Literally.

Was just hit with the idea that the widespread rise in the decriminalization of the pots might be a sign of the future availability of winder wimmen/dudes/an individual’s sexworker flavor of choice.

Some interesting things were said today in the Luthier's Corner here on TalkBass. The subject of conversation was passive single pickup basses. Mr. Bruce Johnson, who is like the godfather of the Luthier's Corner, tells us that some of his basses are used for Doom:

"My AMB-2 Scroll Bass has actually turned out to be excellent for....Doom Metal :wideyed:!! I never expected that, because I designed the AMB-2 to sound more like an upright bass; percussive attack curve and mid-range coloration, etc. But one of my customers has two of my AMB-2's and uses them for serious Doom Metal. He's found that the single pickup, passive, with extra clear sub-lows is a great base signal into his distortion chain. It makes the distortion really bad-ass. The distortion is clearer, if that makes sense. I've heard his albums; the bass tones make your chest rattle! Which is hilarious to me, thinking that's my sweet, elegant Scroll Bass doing that!"

"To me, it's like seeing your daughter for the first time, on stage, as the lead singer of a metal band! :wideyed::nailbiting: Shocking! Sweetheart, is that really you???

My customer, Rob Morffit, is the leader of the LA based band Witches Of Hell. Some serious Doom Metal. Album artwork NSFW. He has two of my AMB-2's, #009 and #017. #009 is fairly nasty looking, in classic red/black sunburst. But #017 is one of my walnut models, made to look like a bass from the 1940's, that your Grandpa would have played. It's amazing to me to think of Rob playing it in live Doom Metal shows, rattling chests of screaming audiences.....But he loves them, sound, look and feel. They are his two favorite basses. I think he has #017 set up BEAD."
