Yeah, I'm one day into the new year and eyeing a B3K clone... I'm at least going to spend less overall and downsize by the end of the year, alright?
Anybody here into Chelsea Wolfe? Found this great session on KEXP.
I noticed Ben is playing a single coil precision bass and gets a real mean tone out of it. Anybody here rock a single coil P? How are you liking it for heavier stuff and busier riffs? How bad is the "hum"?
Some more SCPB goodness:
I have a sire D5 which is a 51 style. It's really nice for heavy riffs, imo and sounds great. Hum can be mitigated by shielding and there are plenty of split or stacked 51p options if you need it silent
I played an SCPB in my Stoner band for some time. Worked great, good riffing. Fender flatwounds in Drop C. I only stopped using it because I built an Explorer that my bandmates dig the looks of, so I'm using that instead now.
Cool! Which one did you tonally prefer? If you have any recordings I'd love to hear them.
Tonally, I prefer the Explorer. (So in fact it wasn't just the looks.) It has an EMG passive rail humbucker.

It's the California Sounds pedal. I was looking for a distortion pedal to rung my guitar through into my bass amp (Yorkville XM100) because I really liked the tone of the guitar through a 15" with oomph behind it. But, I could only do clean, so, while on a mindless stroll through a Guitar Center, I saw this for $19.99 in the used cab, and snagged it. It's a well-built, surprisingly versatile distortion pedal. Lots of good tones found, and lots of tweakability.
2022 wasn't bad overall for me, the low point was my sister passing away. But, she lived a hard life, and I had been mentally preparing for it for, and I kid you not, 2 decades.A belated happy new year to you all <3

Had a nephew pass away as well, which sucked as well, good guy, just loved the heroin too much.
That being said, I'm going to make a better me by upping my husband game a smidge, and becoming a much better bass player. Those are my only resolutions.
That’s certainly a year with some rough patches. Glad you’re getting through it all. My fathers passing was similar, hard life that gave me plenty of prep time.
My goal is to eat more veggies and read more actually. Oh and we’re playing our first show of the year in a couple weeks.

I’ve got a Seymour Duncan SCPB 3 in a parts P. Like it very well for dirt and tuned to C+. Also worked really well for getting one’s fingerstyle funk on, which is the busiest stuff I play.
I didn't do too much here for holidays, played video games a lot and took the engine mostly apart in my jeep. Even played bass a little bit... My metal band had a xmas even jam which was a blast, felt good to turn up with those dudes after being away from em for a month.
We have a bunch of new music we're working on and we might actually have a vocalist for that project, this time he doesn't sound like danzig! wooohoo!

So, I've been playing along to one of my most reviled bands, Led Zeppelin, who I have avoided and denigrated for 30 years, and, by gum, they are actually pretty good. (I n my high school Black Sabbath phase, all I ever heard when hanging with my clique was LZ for a year. Literally a whole year. That is my reason for the hatred.)
Drink less booze. Play more shows. Record an album.
We have our EP out on Friday. Totally DIY. Not perfect but super proud of our hard work. Gonna keep that DIY going on a full length. Only I plan on commissioning the artwork for the album.
BTW, EP is on bandcamp, will be on Spotify, Apple Music, YpuTube Music, and 10 million other streaming services. DistroKid FTW. LOL
