Right on, great to hear. I have noticed lately that unless you're getting something real mainstream or real DIY, the quality is getting really good with consistency and using the heavier thick pressings.

Also I'm so glad that most record purchases nowadays include a download code. That's eased my buying of splatter records a lot too.

Heheh, yeah. I am always offended by the lack of a download card these days. I figured out how to do it for the two vinyl releases I've masterminded. How lazy does a label have to be to not include that basic piece of additional value?

It's a real bummer on the Steve Albini news. He's one of my favorite producers.

Really bummed about Albini. Shellac has a new album coming out next week and they were going on tour for the first time in a decade or so. More jealous than ever of my friends who went to Chicago for the Touch and Go anniversary and got to see Shellac and Big Black.

Not to take away from anything he's done over the last few decades but he created the sound of the '90s, which were my formative years.

Yeah, my guitar player just told me that Shellac was going to be in Chicago with OFF! in July. Such a titan, such an influence. Even more than most people know. It was always a dream to record an EP at Electric Audio.

Just wanted to pop in to say I hope you're all well!! Been using Reddit a bit lately to satisfy my urge to discuss our niche but it makes me realise I may as well go on here instead, as the discussion tends to be a bit more interesting here

Lately I've been trying to work on my project scoping. But also, and perhaps more importantly, managing expectations for myself. I think it's doing me good. Helps me feel less bad about jumping between projects/hobbies haphazardly, shifting focus from product to learning.

Albini seemed like a really cool person. I'm not very well read or listened to his materials, but so many people in my surrounding really looked up to him. It takes enough skill becoming famous as a musician, I can only imagine how much it takes for someone to become famous for production and engineering.

We've been busy lately. Played a show almost every week over the last month. Tracked and have been mixing a split with another local tulsa band, got some new stickers for merch. Been trying to figure out how to play some loops while I'm tuning, because the silence gets awkward. Bought a boss rc5 so I can trigger the loops through midi from my gigrig with the selah quartz v3 doing the midi translation. Might open up some other options like bass drops or something. I'm still working to figure out how to make it all work.

...I played bass for a few minutes the other day? Other than that, I've been successfully purging gear and reading an absurd amount of various nerdy tomes. Also trying to get back to cycling, and my guitar amps should (hopefully) be done this week after a 3 month wait. Good times overall.

Now that ya mention it, I did start reading an Asimov novel, "Nemesis." Pretty solid, I dig it, first book of his I've read. He's one of those l, I know about pretty well, just never dived in situations. I've noticed I'm that way with a ton of music too.

Ditto. I have his "Foundation Trilogy" - haven't touched it yet! Only been over a decade... I've been "diving in" on Medieval history and various Viking and Viking-adjacent texts for the most part.

The Foundation series on Apple Plus is really great. Not sure how it stacks up to the book though.
