The bass and treble are right from a GT120. I always found those work well with bass or guitar. Pretty universal shelving EQ when you have a nice passive james. The Mid control is from an Ampeg V9, its a much simpler (less parts ie) active mid then from the SVT or V4(b). Gives about +-20dB of gain at the center frequencies of ~400, 1k, and 2.2k Hz according to simulations. Actual mid centers vary with parts tolerance. You can get a envelope type feel when you crank the mid up.
The amp is not so far from a SVT or your GT200 in overall idea. Up to the active mid its basically a GT120 minus the Depth (set to max), and a smidge of limit on the max gain. Then its the active mid from the Ampeg but the phase inverter is right from a Traynor YBA series amp, something you would see in any Marshall or Model T or what have you.
The V9 is a cool amp. I've only seen one once in person. Some crazy good bass tone.
I like the idea of combining just the Ampeg mid with other amps' EQs. Very cool hybrid.

I had the MkIV type, which had the active EQ. It was a mixed bag, it wasn't quite loud enough for me in some situations and fine in others. Depending on the tone and the cab I was using. It could get pretty bright, but sounded pretty full and huge with the volume cranked way up. I would often dial back the high end a lot on it. It could get a pretty crazy overdrive when cranked up full, I used it that way when recording a lot of bands that wanted heavy bass tones. I liked it a lot for a long time, but it didn't age well for me as I found other amps that could either get overdriven easier or were much louder. If I didn't use it so consistently with guitar, I probably wouldn't have kept it as long. It can be a great amp in the right circumstances, depending on your needs and tastes.
So there's a type of Sound City with an active EQ and another type with a passive EQ? Is there an easy way to spot which is which?

I have the VT Bass pedal. I use it for quick and dirty recordings sometimes, or for when I'm going to an open mic or something and too lazy to bring my amp. Been also taking it with me as a backup in case my amp goes.
Yea, most people I've noticed in the last few years living alone each have quirks that manifest when they are at your place. Weird little defiances that like they'd flip **** if it was reversed but don't notice it when they do it to you.
My friend's annoying habit is leaving water glasses all over the place. Drives me nuts.

Whaaaaat, man, fish is so good. But then I've been told quite a few times I have weird tastes. I really dislike lettuce and tomatoes and stuff like that, but love raw shellfish and Brussels sprouts and mushrooms and other weird stuff. Escargot? Awesome. Caesar Salad? Not my bag.
Your tastes aren't weird for the west coast. Pretty normal to like raw fish here, I'd say.
I figure if and when I buy another amp, it'll be a Hi-Tone. I looked at the reeves, but I don't want a bass tweaked take on the Hiwatt, I want to OG AP version, just the same as the guys I listen to used. Plus it's the proper size and won't look silly and small atop my 2000s cab. Plus, I was really impressed by Clayton's response and willingness to do oddball stuff (such as slave stuff). And I mean...those insides are just...so pretty.
Buuuut, somebody did recently offer me another Sunn for a couple hundred bucks...though I still think I'll go for the Hi-Tone and just save up.
BTW, have you looked at the SAP 200 they do? I don't think it's for me but I'm still pretty interested in the whole boost/cut channel thing.

My Mesa actually looks kind of amusingly small on top of my 2000S cab, because it's a little less than Ampeg width. This means that my guitarists sometimes temporarily store their e-bow and their capos on the parts of the cab that stick out.
