Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Work's busy, band's busy. Two great shows this past weekend and more rolling in. Good times. We got asked to do a local festival thing, but I have a conflict so oh well. Updated gig flyer:

I am running close settings except I run the fuzz about 3:00. I think it is the high output pups in the Forever bass as they seem to not play nice with the Bluebeard or the Joyo Ultimate Drive, I can fart those pedals out. Need pick up a spare bass or get the JazzBird built for comparison. Maybe I will press the active bass button in on the Terror tonight to cut some dB's.

Dang, how high output are those pickups? I run my SB2 through mine, and I know the designer specifically went for high headroom because he plays an L2K. For most of my stuff, I run all controls at noon, tone switch off (mid boost) with my Jazz, engaged with my SB2 and T-bird (Volume up a bit).

Not really that hot like 10.3k, had the SCPB made to match the output of the Dimarzio Mudbucker but the Mudbucker is still hotter. Maybe they just output so much bass/low mids that it clips some pedals? It really drives me nuts that the pups can actually fart the BB and the UD. I can set the Terror with the gain way down low like 9:00 for clean bass and kick the EQD Speaker Cranker on which is also set at 9:00 and is an extremely low gain pedal and if I run the mudbucker even partially on it will break up when I just dig in with fingers.

Does it do it just bass> BB> Amp? Could easily be the EQ profile, vs the output, as you mentioned, but this is not an issue I've ever run across (BB user since 05). Battery or adapter power?

Haven't tried it solo to amp yet and I do have a long pedal chain using two one spots to split it up some, and only two out of ten pedals does it fart though. I will give that a shot, thanks. It's not a steady fart out though just digging in and fast runs I can clip the DD and UD. I am probably making a mountain out of a mole hill, not like I have even jammed with people in ages LOL. I will just bond more with ol Ron FN Swanson till I get the other bass built, or...buy another bass ;)

Honestly I find it amusing he's making such a big fuzz (see what i did there) out of it, even though the only gear i've bought since christmas is one cab, and only because he insisted I needed the matched pair. I've pretty much stopped playing after my bands split up last christmas.

He's right tho, i definitely should not get cabs i can't either power or move, lol.

Time to sell everything and start anew. Caterpillar into a butterfly and such.

I've been favoring daddario flex steels, but I'm always in standard and like really bright strings on my Spector. I've been using their tapewounds on my five string and like those too, but for thuddier things.
Yeah, I tried stainless steel strings once, didn't really like them. Too "cold" sounding. I've just been using their roundwound nickels for years.

How many of you guys pay for a set up when its just a change of strings? I can see paying for some work if you need the nut replaced, but the rest of the neck and bridge set up I can do pretty quickly.
Only when switching to a different tuning/gauge. I paid for a setup when I switched my Peavey from EADG to BEAD.

Gents with Bluebeards, what settings you running? I am just not bonding with my BB on bass lately, think it is just a matter of knob tweaking though.
I set volume a little bit over unity? tone bypass engaged. gain at 2 oclock.

I only take a bass to get set up if its really old, really expensive, or it i just cant get it where i want it. I'll file a plastic nut on an epiphone but not bone nut on a gibson.
