Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

You guys are turds about your manual transmissions. Let's be serious for a second, it's 2014 and technology has generally made automatic transmissions superior to manual. Most cars now have manual mode shifting with their auto trannies so you can still down shift the engine in bad weather. Sure the manual gives you more of a "feel" for the transmission but that doesn't mean its better. Fuel economy is about the same now, with the CVT autos getting better fuel economy than both regular manual and auto. Autos are easier to drive and let you focus more on other things. If you prefer manuals that's cool, but let's not pretend that they're somehow way better than automatics.

I do like the metal strips. I just hate pastel colors. I love the 400 series metal knobs those and sexy creatures.

I know!? I just wish it went to 8 ohms, it's 4-2 ohms and my alphabass does that already, I need an 8 ohm stable head SS or tube that's cheap and gets dirty or somewhat dirty or takes pedals well.

There's also an epiphone valve jr. With matching cab, that I can't help but wonder if any part of that setup would make a good vinyl setup? It certainly fits my living room corner setup.
Yeah that is odd of a guitar amp.
All that talk the other day about the D-180 inspired me to look it up. That thing is really cool with the current limiting master volume. The effects loop is parallel blendable. Since then every other amp comes up kinda lame.

Meh, I can't get into them. All I can think is Wino riff, Neurosis riff, Om riff repeat. I just tried again made it a few minutes haha.

I'm thinking I need something heavy-ish, but jammy, trippy, progy. I'm a picky b*tch right now. I'm sure nothing will satisfy. I tried some old school hip hop already, that's out too.
If I could find a heavy version of 72-74 Grateful Dead, that would be sick.
Static X.

I mostly agree with this view, except for the fact that autos make you a poon.

Focus on other things like texting!! :p
For repairs, expense wise manuals will always be superior.
Other than that I'm on board.

Static X.
Did that a few days ago actually. haha

Speaking of poons. I always say it Poonjabi.

I have driven a fair number of performance cars. While I agree with you about top end automatic transmissions meeting/exceeding manuals, those are not commonly found outside of expensive performance cars.

That paddle shift/auto stick system in a dodge avenger (or other comparable affordable car) is not the same as what they are putting in to Porches, Lambo's, or Ferrari, etc.

So while I would spring for an auto in a high end car, it would be manual for me in anything that I can afford.

Dude if you quit buying fancy cabs and basses, then fancy-ass cars would be easier.;)

Nah, those kind of toys are way out of my league currently.

The automatic in my new car is ridiculously good. Keeping the turbo 2.0L and dumping some of the fancy features, it's like a $32k car. That's obviously not a top end automatic but it is fantastic.

And I would agree with you that the auto you have is leaps and bounds better than the autos found in cars previously. But if I am looking at it from a pure performance aspect (and trying to maintain equal cost), I would rather have that 2.0 turbo strapped to a beefier manual.

A year ago I would have told you no auto ever. Then I test drove a bunch of porches, and tried their CVT. It performed better than I could with a manual. Even with out the paddle shift, I could put it in sport, and just put the pedal down and concentrate on driving. I would gladly have that option on board any car. That said, the transmission in that car costs more than my car did brand new.

Love My Sleeping Karma. Haven't heard that Astra album yet. I think I listened to that Hypnos 69 once.
Cool. Thanks guys. These and Kaan should keep me busy. haha. Khan... Kraan.
Maybe some of The Kings of Frog Island is in order for you. That Bask album I posted earlier is a pretty neat blend of stoner and Americana skip the first song though as it is pretty straight forward which is good but the rest of the album gets more interesting.
