Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Just listened to that new Mastodon song, finally. Verse was ok, do not like vocals at all, chorus...WHAT THE F*CK IS THIS NONSENSE?!

Catchy? Sure. Musical? Yeah, it's well constructed. Sound anything remotely like what I want to be hearing when listening to them? NOPE. I haven't listened to an album since Blood Mountain, so I haven't heard the album (The Hunter?) everyone has been bashing. Listening to this song, I do not regret falling behind on their output.
You haven't listened to Crack the Skye, yet? Holy amazing heavy rock record. Jump on that. Not like Leviathan, but epic as poopie heavy rock songs

I'm not very current when it comes to music. I tend to be really narrow in focus and obsessive with stuff, so sometimes I get into a band and then I don't check out any new albums by them for years. I bought Remission when it came out, then Leviathan, then Blood Mountain. After that I guess my brain figured it had enough Mastodon songs for a while lol.

crazy enough, crack the skye is probably my second favorite, with remission being the first. its their best written album as a whole, leviathan and remission are mostly riffy albums, crack the skye is very fluid and dynamic, not just a bunch of kick ass riffs strung together.

I'm curious to try that one, too. I've used a whammy DT for a bit and really like the 5th up/6th up setting which I saw is on the bass whammy, too, so now it's a matter of selling the old and finding a new.

I played it a bit this morning, not sure how I feel about it. I'm going to play it through my rig with some dirt over lunch to see if it makes the cut. Do you want first dibs if decide to let it go?
