Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Just recorded this before leaving for work this morning. Super rough idea for a song. I'm starting to play around with trying to meld some doom metal/sludge and noise rock influences, since those are my favorite genres. These are the riffs I was starting to work on earlier this week, when I pulled a muscle in my shoulder/neck playing guitar.

300 (so in actuality probably around 250 sold online between us and Ivory Antler) this was a smaller pressing than we normally do, but Heroin is kind of an odd ball release so we wanted to keep it small.

so you sold 300 records in 12 minutes of an album that came out in 2007? hard to not be impressed with that haha. was this a repress or the first time you guys have released it?

First time on vinyl, I think there were 25 of the original Herion Kit CD version that had the drug paraphernalia with it, and then we did a CDR pressing of like 100 or 150.

It doesn't even have our drummer on the record too. It was something Myself and our two guitarists put together one day when we were bored, so we went to our guitarist's studio with a bunch of pedals and instruments and screwed around for a few hours.

do you ever chart where you sell more stuff? do you sell more of these vinyls across the pond to europe or is it more in the US?

So for the first time in about 6 months I used my 810 yesterday. It's amazing how scooped it is compared to my 215s. Not only that, but I always considered my self a person who likes a lot of mids in my sound. But I guess I didn't know what a lot of mids is until now. In reality I actually prefer a mid scoop. Even when I boosted the mids when using the 810 it still had less mids than the 215s. With the 215s I'm really having to cut the mids around 600hz with my para eq to get a good sound. The 215s sound great with no EQ with a clean tone but any overdrive sound like honky garbage and I need to really dial down the mids. The Bluebeard and TFR sound better with the 215s though, probably because they have mid scopped sound to begin with.

Speaking of the Bluebeard, does anyone have samples of it next to the Wizard Fuzz?

As for BBQs, we start once you can reach the BBQ in the backyard. I had about 4 feet of snow back there this year. No way was I going to shovel my way to the grill.

First BBQ of the year will be this weekend.

Thanks you!!!! I keep having this argument with people. Mids sound BAD when too loud. Any time you hear a good bass tone the mids have been massaged.

Thanks guys, this has definitely been a cool day, but I'm really excited for the new record.

It's all done, we're just waiting on the final art to send it to the plant.

It blows away anything we've done before in terms of songwriting and how well it was recorded.

The plan is 1000 records this time, hopefully it'll give people more time to pick up a copy once it is out.

I played it a bit this morning, not sure how I feel about it. I'm going to play it through my rig with some dirt over lunch to see if it makes the cut. Do you want first dibs if decide to let it go?

Sure. PM me if you don't dig it. FWIW, with my Whammy DT, I only use a light OD on the octave or interval up/down settings. Any more than that and it gets muddy quickly.

That's kind of what I was feeling, I think if I'm just going to use the octaves, there's other stuff out there with smaller footprints. I'll let you know later this afternoon.

So I have the house to myself tonight and tomorrow, must get the never ending 51 Tele P bass finished. Kind of excited to be able to solder without a 6 year old jamming his Nintendo DS in my face, see what Pokemon I caught, or Honey can you let the dogs out. Should be nice out too so windows down enabling me to blast music that my Ned Flanders neighbor will hate while he is OCDing his yardwork to high hell.
