Pharaoh has GE, Si, and bypass. Bypass was way hot. I never used it cause I always stack. This statement is applicable in what I encountered.

I only use the Germanium. I find the other modes (or most other fuzzes, for that matter) are too trebly for my wants. I do stack it though, but only with a JohnK Gamma Bass OD on low settings. Don't know how, but that little thing amps up the treble just right.

I think I'm going to ditch the flats and go back to rounds. Like I always do. The flats sound great - and through the American Sound it's Geezer in a box - but it's a one trick pony. I miss aggressive, snarly rounds. I can always turn down the tone knob to get rounds to sound more like flats - ain't nothin' I can do to make flats sound like rounds.

Hrm.

I'm not sure how much of that is the flatwound strings and how much is the pedal. 60% pedal, 40% strings, maybe?

It's a great buy for the money, no matter what. This is coming from a guy that normally can't stand amp sim pedals.

Just read this...very funny stuff. Over $43,000 in salaries for a one month tour? Over $20,000 renting lights, a van and a trailer?! We bought our van and trailer for less than that and get years out of it, not one month

Hex Volt first show was, overall.. Great Success!! I was kind of stunned at how many people showed up on a Tuesday night. I am very grateful to Sonny, Danny, and Josh of Kuato & Quaid (also known as Demolition Na'an, depending on who's playing bass vs. drums at that particular instant) for joining up and bringing most of the party. Few if any people really knew what to expect from the bass & drums duo as we set up but we came out of the gate riffing like maniacs and won 'em over pretty instantly. I about sh!t myself when my right hand cramped up in the third song and I lost the ability to hold my f**ing pick and had to intermittently switch to flailing chords barehanded (which I'd never done one these songs before). I limped thusly through the middle of the set, but the thumb muscles had recovered enough by the last couple songs that we were able to finish strong. Happy that my voice held up throughout. Made new friends, got a solid gig offer, some vague offers, we're off and running, woooooo!

I played my first gig with MDT a little over a year ago. It's amazing how far you can come in a short amount of time. Glad your first outing was a success!

I had the neck, bridge, and pickup. I planned on making a Kramer copy body until I held the neck up to a Hackl. I asked Justin (Hackl) to make the body to fit the neck and pickup. I think it came out great.

It looks really cool. I never knew until this moment that you could buy G&L MFD pickups by themselves, just looked it up. Now I really want one, to play around with in a build.

Yeah, I bought that for a project years ago. It's so hot and versatile, even passive. I've a L2000 and love the variety of sounds and tones I'm able to extract.

I love really hot bass pickups, so I've always wanted one to mess around with. I never knew you could just buy them by themselves though. Of course I find out when I'm totally broke though. Hopefully I get some more side work in the new year and I can afford to do experimental instrument builds for fun.

Thanks! And the party didn't stop. Stayed up until 2 AM tending to drunk puking wife (well see, the bartender gave the drummer a mini-pitcher of IPA on the house… but he didn't drink it as he is a sensible man with a family to drive home to… but the wife couldn't pass it up), followed by being roused at 6:30 AM to make breakfast and build lego spaceships with the boys. Sleep is nice, but between heavy riffs and sweet-ass lego starfighters, I got nothin to complain about. I'm glad I took today off work!


On a completely unrelated note, way back several weeks ago, Squanch was gettin' gassy for a dirt pedal and I think ultimately opted for an SFT Catalinbread. When he was describing what he wanted, I chipped in semi-seriously that he try out an Ibanez CM5 ClassicMetal, which was my first stompbox in my teenage days. That prompted me to dig it's corpse out of my secret trunk of ancient music sh!t. The cheap switch in it was broken. I set out on a quest to dig out the PCB from the cheap plastic enclosure and mount it in a proper heavy-duty metal enclosure and replace the pots, jacks, and of course the switch with quality, heavy-duty stuff, throw in your usual bass-boost and LED / asymmetrical clipping mod switches, and turn my old cheap pedal into a super-deluxe booo-teeek tricked-out true-bypass MXR distortion+ clone. Well, I made just about every dumbassed mistake possible, from ordering all the parts EXCEPT the actual heavy-duty stop switch, to not properly accounting for the actual space available, and kept having to take ever more labor-intensive workarounds, such as physically removing large chunks of the circuit board containing the switching circuitry, patching bits of the board back together as it cracked apart in unintended places, to Dremel-tooling the back panel just a wee bit, it seemed like the project as a whole was turning into a quagmire like the War in Viet-Fcking-Nam and I ought to cut losses and give up BUT FINALLY IT'S TOGETHER AND IT WORKS. The original tone is all there. It's a little quirky; the bass-boost switch was supposed to be a "boost - off - bigger boost" type arrangement but it's really a "boost - off - no sound output whatsoever". The tone knob works backwards for some vintage RAT "filter" flavor. The power turns on when you plug in the OUTPUT cable, instead of the input (don't ask). But there's a real nice fat overdrive action going in with one or both LED's engaged instead of the Si diodes and the bass boost on and I'm looking forward to trying it out at full volume. Would also like to try it in that mode with downtuned guitar into cranked Sovtek MIG50 or Traynor bassmaster for serious DOOOOMage.

Of course now that I got it working, Squanch is selling his Catalinbread!
