Ok so I'm slowly going through this Obelisk list. I really wanted to like Yob and it is definitely "good" music, just not music that I like. Mars Red Sky was an album that I absolutely loved. Just re listened to the WoFat album, same issue I had with it as before. Certainly sounds cool, but I almost instantly forget everything I heard once the album is over. Conan seems pretty cool by my sinus headache is preventing me from fully enjoying it. Going to have to listen again when I'm feeling better.
Winner except for the USB is 16bit not 24bit capable. Next question... Do I need 24bit... Back to the interweb.
It's debatable, some people swear 24 bit (or higher, much higher for some) is the only acceptable resolution for digital audio. CDs are 16 bit, for reference. I have mixed a lot of albums in 16 bit and never got a complaint. I do plenty of projects in 24 though. Honestly, I listen to music with a much more critical ear for sound quality than a lot of people do and I've never been picky about it. Maybe I would feel differently if I was listening to classical or soft jazz all the time, instead of this crazy satanic beard metal.
But really, shooting a kitty out of a cannon and it landing on a spike pit is pretty funny. I dont remember how long my record was in feet, but that cat was bouncing and hurdling along for like 20mins.
Marked down from $279 most places on the web, and Mackies generally are good bang for the buck. Just happened that I had checked AMS right before reading that post

Will have to ponder if it's worth the extra $120 for the option. Both are about the same in features. I do like the EQ section option on the Mackie.

Personally, I'd get the Mackie. Their mixers are well regarded, it's less money and looks like it has more usable inputs available. At that level I don't think the difference between 16 bit and 24 bit is significant enough to matter.
Man some times I am tempted by the parallel frets....

If you're upping your recording game with a small format mixer, by the time you care about something like 24 bit recording, you'll probably have outgrown the mixer.
