Switching grill cloth on current Ampeg SVT cabs

Thanks so much! I thought it might be a stupid question, but I am not handy at these kind of things - at all. Ha ha.
There is a local guy who does all of my repair work, setups, etc. I asked him about it yesterday and told him that I would supply the grill cloth. It might be cheaper if I have all three done at the same time he said.

I'm in the same boat. I just bought an SVT CL locally that was such a good deal I couldn't pass it up but I hate the new style of these amps. Fliptops makes faceplates for just about every other Ampeg. If they sold a Silver CL faceplate it would outsell all of the other faceplates combined. Basically it would have to be modelled on the SVT CL AV or just be a CL in silver. Does anyone know anyone who's already done this?

Yesterday I pickup up an SVT 410 HEN (410 AV) (Has a Fender 50th Anniversary sticker on the back) Cabinet off of the local Craigslist. The cabinet is in super shape. The only thing is that the blue/silver grill cloth has a few stains that run down the front. It's hard to tell from this cell phone picture. But, you might be able to see the three dirt lines on the right-hand side of the cab. Is there a way to clean this, should I just re-grill it or leave it alone, lol?
On a side note, it is ok to run both of the cabs through a 7-pro? The head says that it will handle 600watts @ 8 ohms. the 410 is 500watts @ 8 ohms and the 210 is 250watts @ 8 ohms. Also, would it be better to run the 210 parallel off of the 410 or i it better to plug both of the cabinets through the speakon cables into the head?

Take the grill off and spray it with that orange cleaner, rub it down with a wet soft cloth, then rinse it off with a hose. Do it 2 or 3 times for stubborn stains. Should clean up nicely.
I replaced the black grill on my 2007(?) 810 to match my SVT-VR. I didn't do a very good job, but from more than about 5 feet away it looks great. I had trouble keeping the cloth lined up properly. I paid something like $30 IIRC for enough cloth to cover mine. It came straight from Ampeg through my local Ampeg dealer. Plus they sent me enough to do two 810 cabs.
SWSMUSIC-you can run both cabs from the 7 pro as two 8 ohm cabs add up to a 4 ohm load. Doesn't matter which way you plug em in. either from the amp or "daisy-chained - from amp to cab then to next cab.
BUT- it ain't a great idea in your case as the 210 cab-with 1/2 the speakers as the 410, will be getting the same power as the 410. So you run a big risk of over powering yr 210 cab

Rodl2005 - Thanks so much. I didn't mean to hijack this thread, btw. I just couldn't find the answer in a few searches I did and wanted to make sure that the dude I spoke with at GC was correct. I have an svt 410hlf that I used to love, but it seems a little bit too boomy now that I have a smaller place to practice in my basement. I thought the 210 and 410 would be a good combination (410hen and 210he) as I could take the 210 out to play smaller gigs, if needed. Now I am not sure what to do since the 210he and 410hen can't be used together. I also have a 1510he, which as JimmyM said was Yuck (or something similar). It sounds good, but doesn't have much power.

You could TRY the 1510 & 210 together. Mixing cabs/speaker sizes ain't recommended, but sometimes it'll work.
At least it'll distribute some power between the cabs, but probly only allow about as much pwr handling as ur 410.
I like that 410 you've got, haven't tried yr 210 or 1510 tho.
I'd either sell the 410(if I liked the 210) as the 210 might be handy for real small uses, AND sell the 1510 & get a BIG cab to keep as well as the 210. Something like a high-powered 2x15", or 412" , 610"

i'm sure that there are other methods, but the way that i get the cloth to be straight, is that i cut it about 2-3" oversize to the baffle/grill panel. i make a sharp crease in the grill cloth where it's going to be at the top of the grill. this gives me a good line to align it. then i staple it in the top middle, pull it tight to each end and put a staple at the two top corners. then i staple the rest of the top of it.
going to the bottom, i pull it as tight as i can get it and find the line in the grill pattern to align with the bottom edge. then i put a staple in the middle of the bottom and since the top is stapled it won't dip or get wavy at the top while i'm stapling it on the bottom. it should be really tight and aligned so then all you have to to is staple the sides and trim it when you're done.

Does anyone have dimensions to the cab? I just started a recovering project that I'd been researching for years. I was trying to find someone I could pay to do it out of fear, but I can't find anyone to do it, and I'm too cheap and untrusting to pay and send it off. Going to start small with the baffle and grill cloth. I just need to know the dimensions so I can get to cutting some wood.
Okay, I'm in the middle of this same project. Finally got my blue/silver grill cloth from antique music supply as JohnK suggested. Looks like good stuff (FlipTops has been out of stock for quite some time now...)
I just got done removing the white piping (sheesh thats alot of staples!). I'll start removing the old black grill cloth tomorrow. But in the meantime I have a few questions so that I don't "screw up" getting the new stuff on...
1. JohnK, you mentioned about adding an 1/8th inch strip along two sides of the grill? I'm assuming this is to replace the dimensions of the piping, to ensure a good tight fit?
But doing so doesn't cause the velcro tabs to be misaligned by 1/8th inch? Or doesn't that make a difference? (wondering cuz the tabs aren't very big...)
2. Also, since I don't have any 1/8" strips of wood handy (I could track some down...) I was thinking that instead... I could trim off the beaded edge of the piping and simply reuse the flat section. Staple it back on the grill, around the edge, before adding the new grill cloth.

Be careful when using a heat gun to tighten up the cloth after stapling. It is easy to melt a hole in it.

Hope all is well. I finally got around to this project and I decided to try the fliptops route because my friend that was going to help me out has been too busy. So here is the scenario. I ordered a 410hlf blue/silver grill from fliptops. The asked me for the inside dimensions of my cab (they will not be responsible for incorrect measurements) and I told them they were 22.50 x 18.50 inches. When I received the grill yesterday, it is a little bit smaller than expected. The dimensions they sent me are 22.25 x 28.25 inches. I am not sure if the grill replacement isn't square or maybe my cabinet isn't completely square because the top right of the cabinet has a gap of 5/16 of an inch and the bottom right of the cabinet has a gap of 3/16 of an inch. I will attach pictures so that you can see what I am talking about. Am I being too anal about this? Thanks for your input and happy Friday.
