Talked to Eden Tech about the E300T

Lane Baldwin from Eden disputes the rebadging theory in this thread from the Eden forum.

I can't imagine how or why he could not be telling the truth in this matter. Someone will eventually post a picture of the interior of the Eden and if it turns out to be the same design as the Ashton and Fame, Eden's credibility would be toast.

Cheers,
Duff2

You're right. It's probably a safer bet to trust the words of someone who was actually part of the design process, over rumours at an Internet forum. :)

:eyebrow:
Lane part of the design process............

Hey, I forgot to tell you guys, I'm part of the design of the new upcoming Alleva Coppolo pick-ups.
Worked up some 3D models for them to see already.

Liked what they saw so far.

Yeah, Lane, NEVER lied before.
Ever.
And NEVER to me DIRECTLY either.

Would NEVER ask someone to reccomend here on TB, an amp they never seen or played. And want them to say how great it is.

Lane is a standing up guy.

BTW, I'm not hatin' on Eden gear in ANY way.
I LOVE their stuff.
IMO the WT800 set the mark for almost all other amps to be measured by.
I would play one again any day.
It's just kinda heavy!;)

So, back on topic.............has anyone played one yet?!?

He may be splitting hairs. Changing a tone stack's corner frequency (the EQ) is as simple are changing a couple of cap and resistor values. If Eden took the generic Smarvo design and re-voiced the preamp, he would be technically correct, but more than a little disingenuous. Eden does not have any other experience in tube poweramp design and if they actually built this amp from the ground up, you'd figure THAT would be what would be being trumpeted, not some 'mid frequency design.'

+100 to post #2 above.

Hope they 'tested' it as well as they did the 1205...the "most thouroughly tested product in Eden's history" according to Mr. Baldwin, to explain why it was almost a year late.

My rack ears didn't even fit...:rollno:

Mwah-ha-ha...

:hiding:

Just feel sorry for the poor suckers who actually buy one; not only did they pay 3x's the price, but they'll be lucky if the freakin' knobs stay on.

And +1000 to post number one above. I wouldn't put it past them.

Cheers,
Cameron

So I see I didn't miss anything exciting while I was on vacation, same people bitching and crying and wetting themselves every time a Eden topic appears.

I wish that was all I had to be concerned about in life, someday I hope to be just like you all.........................

Well Vinny, I hope someday to be as "cool" as you and be endorced by Eden...[/sarcasm]:o

Yeah, I felt the same way when I sold my SWR SM-500 for a fraction of its cost because of threads like this about SWR. But that was the only reason I cared.

I "was" endorsed by them.
Their gear simply rocks. Flat out.

Their follow up with customer service on the other hand......

I still want to hear this amp though.
If it is a true "Eden" (which I actually suspect David did tweak the design- Lane, I have my doubts) then it should slam.

It looks like the knobs are in the same place on both the Eden and the Fame-Ashton. Same buttons and pots mounted on the PCB - sure to break early and often, same with the jack. If all they did was change some caps, I dunno... We need to see pics of the Eden's insides.
PCB mounted tube sockets always break down - be sure to brush up on your soldering skills with this type of amp (similar to new Marshalls and Fenders and almost anything that doesn't cost an arm and a leg nowadays, by the way).
Switching power supply and anemic looking OT. No wonder it can't do 2 ohms.
Still - at ~$1000 you could buy a spare. And as a comparison, the last tube amp that Eden built in the U.S. listed for over $3000.
I think I'll stay with my WT550, thanks.

The moaning has gotten so boring, it's practically invisible.

The conspiracy-theory photo comparison, however, is funny because the qualified technical analysis is missing. Most circuit designers and electrical engineers that I know would analyze this in a data-based fashion, rooted in formal engineering and technical training, true professional experience, or combination of same.

. . . Not to mention the way any differences sound . . .

However, there is good entertainment to be found here. It's sort of like watching people slipping on banana peels. The more the same person does it, and then more join in, the funnier it gets.

Thanks for the laugh, guys!

I do agree that this thread and it's sister thread where the comparison pictures were posted ( http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=483076&highlight=eden ) seem to be devolving into a simple split into those who belive that Eden is being deceptive, and those who don't. That said, I love this kind of investigation.

Whose going to open up one of these EDEN's and take a couple of pictures in order to make all things clear? Please....

Just in case anyone hasn't seen the comparison pictures. I will say only that except for the speakon jack, every screw, knob, plug, adjustment point and LED is in the exact same place. If the EDEN came out first, we would largely agree that the Fame/Ashton was a copy, but since the EDEN was second...

By the time You're analyzed your "Eden" and traced the schematics, I've most probably done the same for "Fame".
Won't happen overnight though as it involves removing a few components that are blocking the view, and occasionally I play through that head too ;).

If any of that qualifies as qualified, I leave for the jury to decide.

And BTW, there's a thread (mine) about the Fame BVH300 that has some analytical data.

Regards
Sam

I was somewhat hesitant to repost those pictures in this thread since I posted them in the "Eden, really" thread - but this seems to be the more active thread.

"Fame" is the house brand of German dealer [Invalid or Expired Link Removed].
All "Fame" branded items are budget oriented copies / rebranded products, with excellent value-for-money.

Here is the actual product page for the [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] which sells for EUR 528

Here is their product page for the [Invalid or Expired Link Removed], which sells for EUR 1.049

they also sell alongside original Warwicks Polish made Corvette copies, which are also not half bad, like this Bubinga bodied NTB "Corvette" for 625 Euros.

I do believe, this post points to the actual source Smarvo in Indonesia.

The Eden is made by a company called Smarvo. They make tube and solid state amps for many companies who just put their names on them.

I have a brochure from the company from 5 years ago that has that particular design up for sale. The Eden version is flipped upside down.

Nice pictures. So where exactly is the topological analysis of all amps in question that allows the conclusion that all are equal?

I'm not sure a topological analysis will be necessary to settle the central issue of this debate, which seems to be:

"is The E300T a rebranded -perhaps slightly modified- smarvo amplifier design?"

That issue can be settled quite quickly with a couple of pictures of the inside of an E300T. It won't take long to see if the E300T has as much in common with the Fame as the Ashdon does.

My appologies to Olddog, I should have credited you with the pics.

I'm not sure a topological analysis will be necessary . . .

Of course not . . . that would involve knowledge, experience, and the subsequent ability to competently analyze the circuits; as well as compare and contrast variable tonal attributes . . . which is not the purpose of this thread, and far beyond its scope of sensational innuendo.

The similarities of layout go beyond what can be considered coincidence.
A lot of the people posting on this thread actually know a great deal about circuit topology - and if someone can get the cover off an Eden you can bet there will be a LOT more than sensational innuendo.
