TC Electronic BG250 Club (Part 2)

Ok, it's my turn. I picked BG250/115 recently. I also have BH500 + 2 x 212 cabs but needed something 'combo'.
Sounds great and will try it tonight at rehearsal. Love playing with the Toneprint but what does it mean when Toneprint only flashes once and doesn't change?
The Toneprint is not compatible?
Others 'tones' flash away and change, but some only flash once.

Regarding Amp hum. I picked this up last week and after reading about the hum was glad that it was quiet, no hum. However 1 week on, that's change (as follows).
Amp on, no guitar lead - silent.
Lead in, no guitar - loud hum
Lead in amp + bass - slight/ audible hum.
Volume/ gain is around 4. Tones at '0', No toneprints engaged.
I also tried different leads, cables and location at home but its still humming away.
I rehearsed and played live with it during the week and didn't notice any hum.
Is this a fault, normal or a grounding issue?. Cheers

It is normal for any amp to have a loud hum when a cable is plugged into the input jack of the amp but no instrument connected to the other end of the cable.

If you short the instrument end of the cable, that hum will (should) go away. Same if you plug into your instrument and turn the volume all the way down on the instrument.

The hum you hear with the instrument plugged in (and the volume turned up on the instrument) is the pickups and wiring in your instrument picking up stray electromagnetic noise all around you. Some are worse than others depending on how well the instrument is wired and shielded and how noisy the pickups are. It also gets better/worse depending on the room you're in and the lighting and wiring in the area.

Thanks for the reply. I understand about amp hum.
l guess my concern is that prior to today, there was no audible hum, it was quiet. It was quiet at the weekends gig and had been quiet in practice s well as at home since I purchased it over a week ago.
This is a now a new noise.

Ps Amp sounded great, played in a outdoor beer garden and l even got told to turn the amp down haha.

I've had my BG250-115 for just over a month now, and I'm still loving it. Just thought I'd check in while I was actually signed into my account.

I'm using the Duff Chorus toneprint in slot A, and One Iron Fist Up (I think that's what it's called) in slot B. I have an Spectracomp pedal so I don't need to use a Toneprint slot for that one.

Haven't gigged the amp yet, but it has sounded great at practices. Can't wait to take it out and actually get to crank it a little.

Bought a BG250-115 2 days ago. I went to a local music store to pick up a BH250 and K210 cab but they had this combo sitting front and center and I decided to give it a spin. Glad I did! I also got it at a really good price, €359 in Italy. Considering 22% of that cost is the outragious Italian sales tax, I have to admit this amp is a serious bargain for how good it sounds.

It seems like it can get pretty loud although I havn't tried it with the band yet. I was wondering if I ever need more amp volume if it would just be better to get another amp and ABY them? Or instead of an AB stitcher, maybe put a Zoom B3n in front of two? Who knows, maybe I will never need that amount of volume...

Anyway, let's hear some updates from those using this combo for some time now. How are they holding up? Regrets? Everyone still happy end users?

Over 2 years owner, no gigs, living room use only so volume set at 5 max with gain knob set at 5. Never had any problem, so no regrets and I think it sounds good too, especially for the money I paid. Even if I buy a new amp I'm gonna keep this combo.

Picked up a used BG250 1x15 locally, used (but literally in mint cond as the original owner never used it). Still getting to know it, but in my home, it seems that there is a hole somewhere in the mids. It may be due to that fact that all my other cabs are 10's and 12's (oh and one 2x8 cab). Maybe the single 15 is just throwing me off. Not sure yet.

Just wanted to jump in on this thread as a relatively new owner of a BG250-115. I like what I've heard so far, and I am really excited to experiment with it more. Also look forward to perusing this thread for hints and ideas.

Question about the speaker in the BG250-112.

Has anyone pulled it to see what it actually is as far as impedance, wattage, and brand?

My BG blew the other day. Had my bass in my lap with volume off, so not even under signal conditions. Amp is always low volume and never been pushed at all. All of a sudden, loud pop through speaker and brain dead. I've only used it as a personal practice amp over in the corner at very low volume. Pulled the amp and it is not the typical varistor pop. Power LED on, no tuner LEDs, totally dead output. Comparing what I paid for it to what shipping and repair costs to a new head, it is not very logical to toss chippies on shipping it out for a repair job. I have a GK full stack w/ 1001 and an old Fender Bassman 135 but don't want to fire those up at home just for practicing by myself...

I bought a new Peavey Mini Max 500 for a ridiculously cheap price today and will jack plate the cab...

I hate the TC blew because it was a very nice sounding amp and I love the single 12" for bass, perfect for my use and responded well for all my fours and fivers. Damned nice... Oh well...

Any deets on the 12" speaker would be appreciated. Thanks!

I am not a tech, but those symptoms don't sound at all like the speaker. If there's No tuner lights then that means input fail, not output, right? Have you tested the headphone out?

Not yet. Will do. Tuner LEDs do not respond. Tone Print LEDs no response, Mute LED no response. Dead.

With no response from any LEDs, I doubt very seriously speaker was involved. There was zero input as bass volume was off so no signal going to speaker for probably over ten minutes...then extremely loud pop, and dead zone, except for power on LED. If speaker, other LEDs including tuner would respond to buttons on amp and footswitch.
