TC Electronic BG250 Club (Part 2)

Alas, the time had come, yesterday. I have liquidated my first-generation specimen of the 1x15 combo, which had seen considerable duty over the last several years. I thus now depart this club, and join a new one. I've graduated to the senior citizen gig circuit, and it was time that my amp reflected it. Hello MarkBass 121.

Gigged my BG250-115 mk.2 for the first time last week, and it acquitted itself very well. The venue was quite a large hall, and the PA was struggling a bit to produce any significant LF in the hall (we're only using some Carlsbro 15" tops at the moment - soon to change). The BG250 had plenty of volume for stage monitoring, and could be heard well out in the hall providing quite a 'phat' bottom end sound. I think I might try a tilt-back stand to get it off the stage as it was causing some resonance / vibration on the stage panels.

The volume output was impressive for a single 15" cabinet, although a little 'woolly' and indistinct when pushing the master beyond 6. For its' intended purpose it will be more than adequate - the halll was so large that the drums weren't dictating the PA and backline volume (for once), so not surprising that it needed to be pushed a bit.

PA will be getting two 18" powered subs soon, so the BG250 will be for stage monitoring only.

I've not tried it but the output is wired parallel so as long as you disconnect the speakon from the head on the 208, it will function as a normal cab.

I picked up a new BG250-210 just under two weeks ago. I only have a couple hours on it playing with my old singer/guitarist from a band that I used to be in years ago with. He moved away a couple years ago and is back in the area this summer and wants to do a couple gigs while he is around. May just be the two of us with no drummer, but we have done that before in the past a couple times (we had a drama queen drummer) so it's do-able. So far we are both impressed with the amp and I'm sure that it will handle the couple small bar gigs that I'll do with it. I've been retired from gigging otherwise...

My new BG250-210 was a 'new' floor model from Guitar Center and didn't come with the cable for downloading toneprints. Can I buy a cable from walmart that would work for downloading toneprints from my ipod to the amp or do I need to use the one that was suppossed to come with the amp?

I'm pretty sure it is a simple micro USB cable like the one used to charge your smartphone. But, you don't need a cable if you use the toneprint app with your smartphone. Do a search on youtube for bg250 and toneprint and you will see how easy it is to just beam the toneprint from your smartphone through your bass pickup and directly into the amp.

It's not a micro (unless they've changed since I bought mine 3 years ago). It's a standard mini usb like smart phones used 4-5 years ago

I only have a cheap phone through cricket and I have no storage for apps. I downloaded the app onto my ipod touch (5th gen), but it won't beam the toneprints onto my amp. Looks like I may have to look for a cable after all.

I've got a BG 250...I feel like it's lighter than average for the size. The sound is pretty good...the effects are ok if you don't feel like dragging the rest of the pedals out...only bitch I have is sometimes the onboard effects sound computerized...which would make sense because it is digital. Over all...I dig this little practice rig for it's big sound and direct out. Looks cool too with the anodized red and black. To be honest, the TC puts the fender practice amps of it's size to shame. So even if it does have a couple drawbacks, I would sooner take the TC over it's competitors. I like the app feature too.

Two quick questions:
#1 - What Tone Prints do you have loaded onto your amp? (Just curious - For now I have the Spectra Comp and Duff Chorus <---- Have only tried a few so far... I also liked Troy Sanders 'The Creature')

#2 - How is the durability with these amps? Anyone been gigging one hard for a couple years now?

I have a mk1 115 which I've had since shortly after they were released. Only use the spectracomp toneprint. It's been used in rehearsals and pub gigs and done the job well. Using it with 4-string Stingray or VM Squire Jazz.
Two gigs ago it froze, lights were all on but no output to PA or speaker, checked all the usual suspects- leads, settings ( mute, toneprint on and off) no difference. Rebooted it and it came back ok. Completed gig ok.
Left it on at gig volume with lead connected for four hours next day to test and it gave no problem. Have played another gig since and had no problems. But think trust is gone so looking to replace with head/cab config.

I'm looking for a new amp, and have been taking a look at a BG250-112 combo available at a local store. Since availabity and prices over here are a pain in the ass, my options are pretty limited. I'm between this and a Fender Rumble 200. I'm planning to use it as a home amp and hopefully some small-venue gigs in the near future.

Any pros/cons and experiences you're willing to share about this model? When compared to the Rumble, in what ways is it better and worse (I know this is a pretty subjective thing to ask, but I'd like to see your opinions)?

Hey,
I am a new bassist and new to these amps. I bought a bg250 2x10 online and recieved it yesterday. I am used to my practice amp where I just plug in and turn volume up to play. On this new amp the master volume doesn't work unless I turn the gain up 1st. Is this normal for these bass amps?
