My argument for mixing cabs (4x10 and 1x15):

In my 17 years of playing, no one has ever said to me "Dude, your sound would be better if you didn't mix cabs, bruh."

I would say anyone with at least half their hearing would choose any of Mesa's other big cabs over that. Easily one of the worst sounding cabs I have played through.

Indeed. Another thing with a cab like that... if you are getting it mic'd up into the PA... which do you mic? The 10" or the 15"? This is another, albeit minor, reason to use a matching set of drivers.

I attempted to find the sound I was hearing in my head for years. Occasionally I found it in someone else's rig, and I would quickly adopt that persons brand of amps to try and recreate the tone. Time and time again I failed and I couldn't understand why until I looked at the speaker configuration; each rig had unmatching cabs. It's probably due to the added stress of one driver, but in order to get that physical, body cavity rattling punch I want I need to have unmatching cabs. I do keep the ratios close (2x10 with a 1x15) but I do break the "code of ethics" on this issue. It works for me, and I do keep an ear out for any signs of any extreme stress. So far, everything has been fine and I have the tone I want.

Mixed cabs - Here is what Ampeg says on their web site about the SVT-15E speaker cab: "Team it up with the SVT-CL head and an SVT-410HE, for top-end, and you’re guaranteed to get the dance floor moving". and, about the SVT-410HE cabinet: " The Ampeg SVT-410HE is also the ideal enclosure for the player who wants to add extended upper register clarity to a system that already features ample low frequency performance. Just ask George Clinton—he uses an SVT-410E to round out the top-end of his killer, all-SVT stage setup"......... Sooooo... are Ampeg's comments legit or are they just trying to sell cabinets (or maybe both?)

They're trying to sell cabs. The SVT-15E is a great little cab, but IIRC, handles only around 200 watts, which is way less than the SVT-410HE.

True, but not at the rate it's been changing over the last 20 years. When I was a kid, 100 degree days in my area of Florida in summer were rare. Today they're commonplace. And for two winters in a row, my city didn't have a single freezing day, and we always get a few. I don't say this as a political statement, either. To me it's got zip to do with politics. I will agree with you that it's hard to prove 100%, but I'd rather err on the side of caution.

Yeah, and personally, whether it's the study of the atmosphere or of acoustics, if many people who have made it their life's work to study a particular topic reach a consensus about it, I pay attention and give them some credit.

Hence why I've come to the conclusion that those who say that a matched cab rig is usually a better bet than a mixed cab rig are probably right.

It didn't just disappear on its own. Flourocarbons in aerosol cans were banned and it fixed itself in time.

It's not "fixed". The melanoma rate in Australia rose so high that it's now illegal to have a child under 12 on the beach there unless he/she is covered from elbows to knees and there are melanoma screening clinics everywhere. That didn't happen because of drinking too much Foster's Lager.

Yeah, imagine that, it coincidentally diminished after the chemical agents scientists said were the likely culprits were banned. What a coincidence! I guess the fact that NASA landed a human on the moon was also dumb luck. No real credibility there
