The Combo Club

... So we are getting decorations up etc etc. my “Music Corner” needs to be mucked out. I’m happy to do this! The Ampeg RB-115 had to find a new home for the holidays-. View attachment 4494056. Great place! Cover and all.

Then a day or two later, SWMBO looks over and says, “when did THAT “speaker” arrive???” I quickly said “early last summer- you liked it!”

“Hmmph”…

Great shot, Tele, but the sweeper's gotta go. I'm sorry, but appearances are important. ;)

Here's what mine is currently doing right now underneath its cover...

KaiTheShisno, welcome once again to the Combo Club. You, my friend, will be known as member #268 forever and a day, congratulations! Please stop by anytime you want now that you have a free pass to get into the club. When you're ready to step your amp up to a more giggable amp, feel free to ask any questions you might have.

Thanks again for signing up with the CC! :hyper:

Tell me about that double four.

Yea @iagtrplyr tell us about the PJB double 4. I know @Morrighan likes hers. You don’t talk much about yours. My wife asked me what I wanted for Christmas. Well I don’t know. I mean Christmas gifts in my house usually run in the 50-200 range and what I want has much higher price tags. I told her that and said there’s this little amp the size of a shoebox that would be really cool to have. She responded, “what do you need another amp for?” And followed up with, “that’s a lot.” She’s not wrong about those two things. I explained to her that it would be cool to have an amp to easily carry around the house and play outside in the gazebo in the summer and to travel with. She just said but that’s a lot. She’s not wrong. Lol.
In her defense she almost never objects. We’ve been married 38 years. I’ve literally spent at least 2-3 hundred thousand dollars on all things music in my life and most of it with her. She’s always been supportive.
And look. Bottom line. I’m my own man. I can afford it. At this point in my life I pretty much get what I want when I want it. But she’s my conscious. My alter ego. My voice of reason. My right hand.
So tell me about the double four @iagtrplyr and @Morrighan and others with the double four. Why do I need to spend another 500 bucks on an amp that’s been described as “another amp.”
I mean. Besides the fact. Of course. That it’s a COMBO!!!
Thanks…

I play the PJB BG-400 combo — 300 watts @ 8 ohms, 500 watts @ 4 ohms. Not your fathers, or grandfather's, Double Four :) I could have done all my work since lockdown on the Double Four.

Your bass is what you will hear with PJB amps.

Very, very pleased with our online practice group. The PJB is my DI

The PJB D4 is a 70-watt (two 35-watt amps), 2-4" speaker system that gives you exactly what Morrighan said...the tone of your bass (or guitar), nothing more, nothing less. It's as clean as the white Sunday go-to-church dress your aunt wore in the 50s. As transparent as GP's dislike for Ampegs and Fenders. The little brute will give you some sound though, and those speakers punch a lot higher than their weight class would indicate.

For a bass player who likes some old-school character dished up hot and fresh, it's a tad neutral, but if you like cleans that displays just how many wrong notes you play in a song, then this is the amp for you! Now you might think I'm :poop: on my 'Lil Red Breadbox, but actually, I've kind of fallen for it in terms of electric guitar. From slightly anemic but honest bass to the perfect small room platform for my Tele and Vox stompbox, it makes me smile every time I strum a chord. And the best news is it's already bought and paid for.

Now does it mean I'm not actively searching for a guitar amp? Don't be silly, it's me for goodness sake. But for right now I couldn't be happier with what the D4 is giving me. BTW, it's also the best-built piece of gear I think I own. Built like the proverbial poo house (hmm...second reference in one post), I don't see this combo ever breaking down or, and more importantly, being tossed aside by moi.

There ya go, time for lunch! :hyper:

Right here, my man! Feel free to ask any questions and I'll get to them ASAP.

PJB is full range, clean, and still musical. Built like a brick [something or other] house. Takes effects very well. I feed it an Ampeg vibe* from the VT Bass Deluxe. Sounds like the voice of God :hyper: at low volume :p That's good. :)

* don't feed it after midnight
