The Combo Club

Saturday practice. Can't pick a favorite Thunderbird, but I have a favorite practice combo!

I love the white one :bassist: Reminds me of Martin Turner’s white firebird with Wishbone Ash at the height of their power:cool::cool::cool:

One of the forgotten bands that pioneered the twin-lead sound like the ABB. :bassist::bassist:
Listen to this through cans or a good Bluetooth.

@Miles_ONeal You have a very interesting pedal board. Can you show more photos of it, please?
pedalboard-2021-10.jpg

The chain is (from top right):
SaturnWorks 2-into-1 switch => Korg Pitchblack tuner => MXR M87 Bass Compressor => Boss GEB-7 bass EQ => MXR M85 Bass Distortion => MXR Phase 95 => Morley 20/20 Volume Plus => MXR M81 Bass Preamp
All zip-tied to a Holey Board from before he switched to aluminum plates. Walrus Audio Aetos 8 port power supply under upper deck. Right now not playing anywhere, but once I start back, I might replace the preamp. The Master Effects Super Eight Hundred Plus is very tempting.
I used to have a bass player punk duck that watched over the board, but it fell in love and wandered off with a four year old. Then this unicorn moved in. I wasn't about to argue!

Got the Covid. I have 3 shots and feeling not great, but okay. Good times.
I had minor symptoms on Wednesday, antigen positive on Thursday, PCR test also positive in Friday. Almost no symptoms today. My wife and daughters also got it - and all fully vaccinated.....

Here's my downvote on the Thing That's Going Around, and my PJB flavoured combo Like on Healing

Contessa is right

Yes, she is, and so is Gabby Johnson! Here's some real frontier gibberish —

The origins of my nickname are accurately traced to a utterly innocent  night spent long ago with Georges in a radio station in Geneva. Julie, ou la nouvelle Héloïse by Jean-Jaques Rousseau is what I consider this night.

No doubt. The vaccines are really helping. I am barely symptomatic today.

I'm late but my sympathies are with ya, good doctor. I'm gonna PM ya my latest endeavor. May not be your kind of music, but it's more for recording practice than anything. By the time you read this, you'll probably be feeling better. It's a stinker, isn't it? No kissing the lady love, Doc, unless she's got it too!

Hey Tele! Yep, rare appearance, but I was up anyway. When I think of Wishbone Ash, I think of all the twin lead bands and the first one out of my head is always Thin Lizzy (since we're talking 70s British rock). BTW, I loved Argus.

Say, I picked up a cousin to your little combo, take a peek below. Love the cleans, hate the distortion. But, love the cleans! Take care, I hope everything is good with ya.

Have a good week everyone! ... ... Be talking to ya no later than Easter! :woot:

Fearless Leader Emeritus! No Old Leader's Home for you! Busy, busy, busy! Kinda like when I retired from my day job, pretty soon I didn't understand how I ever found time for a job! Best wishes, 'til Easter. :D

Yes- nice cleans on the 10W Vox, but no use for that “OD” channel.

What I’ve done is run a mild OD pedal in front of it for use either as a clean boost, or get the dirt from the pedal. It takes pedals well. I use the Mooer “Green Mile”.

Interestingly there is an “LED mod” you can do to these to “open up” the overdrive channel and make it less “fizzy”. Involves going into the board and clipping the leg of one of the two LEDs inside.

I’m happy enough with my pedal solution. I’m not comfortable rooting around inside of an amp (even a cheap one…) and anyways- I like it stock just fine! :bassist:

The LED mod has been the go to mod for all the Pathfinder 15, 15R & 10 for guitar and the Bass 10. It only affects the Overdrive channel. You are removing the clipping LEDs from the overdrive. It makes the clipping more natural and the OD channel gets louder, while the drive sets in more subtly. The LEDs clip the signal too hard causing the fuzzy sounding overdrive and reducing the volume. Clipping the LEDs allows the overdrive to come in more gradually and the volume to continue to increase, much like a tube amp pushed into overdrive.

While this is for the PF 10 Guitar, the effect is the same for the PF 10 Bass: Vox Pathfinder 10 w/ LED Mod.
