... appears I join your ranks for a couple hours. Accepted an invitation to share my Real World ™ experiences with senior students at an alma mater for an ethics day symposium. Of course one such as I would never encounter ethics problems in the Real World ™ of putting new bird cage liner on your doorstep. These kids are way-over-the-top smart. My first year there is 1972, and I'm all of 16 ....

Back to bass, with Thursday's rhythm matrix practice group looming large. Give Up the Funk is one of this week's homework assignments. All beamed through my combo amp into the DAW and

Cool beans! I've been on an ethics board for a company not affiliated with my normal work place since about 2014. In the last 3 years, I've been invited to join an integrity team at the primary office, then to work on promoting ethics & integrity in onboarding our new hires, and last year I was asked to lead a small team to work on creating Integrity Orientation content for the company on a global scale.

To broaden my understanding of the subject, I've started watching videos about ethics and philosophy on my lunch break.

Is there something wrong with me that I find this fun and rewarding?

Well, IMHO, there is teaching and then there is "Teaching" in the professional sense. There is a difference and it has to do with credentials.

Teaching was always a part of my profession, but my profession was not teaching. For my students, critical. If they don't learn what I teach, they lose their job. If I can't teach them, I lose my job.

And all a good excuse for a shout-out to our teachers here.

In the last 3 years, I've been invited to join an integrity team at the primary office, then to work on promoting ethics & integrity in onboarding our new hires, and last year I was asked to lead a small team to work on creating Integrity Orientation content for the company on a global scale.

To broaden my understanding of the subject, I've started watching videos about ethics and philosophy on my lunch break.

Is there something wrong with me that I find this fun and rewarding?

I've had teachers/professors, and I've had classroom monitors masquerading as teachers. All a long time ago(pre 1970). IDK how anyone can do it in today's permissive world. A 'tip of the Hatlo hat'* to the good ones.

No Hatlo Hat, but I’m intrigued.

Hah! I have been through Six Sigma training, and narrowly avoided getting my green belt! Our company is now on a different LEAN journey. Now, don't ask me to explain the difference!

Granted, but considering I'm an engineer as my job, and my ethics studies are not required or really even recognized by my workplace (Integrity & Compliance, it seems does not include a deeper understanding of ethics), then I consider it an outside pursuit which may dovetail with my work.

The newspaper just installed a majordomo offset press to replace their letterpress. Cold type! Living in the future, baby. And there is an artist on staff — actual ink and paper artist — who touches up [everything] comics before they are shot for camera. That's where I know Hatlo from.

"Professional Student" is a phrase I used to hear. Sometimes it was directed at me. The inference is typically critical. At some point we're expected to finish school and get out there and get it done, e.g. earn, not spend money. I've got all my class materials together for our class with teacher today

I feel it's a privilege to be with people as they learn as a roving coach. Been watching student videos for a couple years now. ( Hey there are some seriously geared players out there, did you know that? LOL ) And watch the videos I make ...

The PJB BG-400 combo is already up and running for today's rhythm matrix practice group. I really appreciate the combo can be used for silent recording. The Elf will do that too, and it's called unplugging the speaker. That's by design. Which is pretty because it means I have a DI in the palm of my hand.

No cables to unplug to record with the combo. Turn the master to goose egg and go. The EQ on the PJB combo is pristine. IMO.

Nothing wrong with doing work related stuff at home. I had a home lab (24u rack with a lot of nerd gear in it) for vmware and other enterprise IT tech adventures. I still do work related professional development stuff in my own time. Reading, labbing, etc. Nothing wrong with having a career that is also a hobby.

Jimmy Hatlo's "Little Iodine" and "They'll Do It Every Time" and other cartoon strips were a hilarious, and polite(!), comment on society and human nature. But he thanked those who sent him the ideas.

In my youth I wished for more Jimmy Hatlo cartoons. Little Iodine ended in 1963, just when I was old enough to really appreciate it. There was a resumption of that strip (different artists) several years later but the paper my folks subscribed to didn’t pick it up. Every Sunday I read They’ll Do It Every Time before any other strip. Ya gotta love the name Henry Tremblechin!
