The Combo Club

Hey, leave me out of this. I have enough problems keeping myself in the green;).

Oh, I'm sorry. I meant you'd help get me on the green whenever golfing! Sorry about that. Anyway, I know all your $$$ is being heavily invested in Ampeg right now. I can't wait to see the new fuzzy slippers and monogrammed hankies you just scored. I love swag! :D

Hello and good night!

Well, before I shove off to sleep I thought I'd drop ya our latest recording since I feel more comfortable here than anywhere else. Maybe Soul Reflection will push me beyond, but I trust your guys' opinions. This may be my best recording/mixing attempt. It seems they get a little better each time. I'm not saying it's perfect or anything, but I really like #2's lead and harmony vocals on this one. Also, I'm playing bass and rhythm guitar as a second to the song's slight lead work. And yes, there's a combo in the room where I did all this work! Now whether it was used I cannot say, but no animals were harmed in the recording of this song...

Any and all comments are greatly appreciated. Thanks, CC!

Well, off to first practice in two years…:hyper:

BL let me know drummer Don, and “radiologist/banjo” player working in Chinle about 40 miles East of us will be working on a few things and wanted me to lay down some foundation…potential shows…St Michaels School “Extravaganza” dinner (ooohhh- Free Food!) and the Shiprock, NM marathon (mile marker TBD :woot:). I might make school gig, but I’ll be in PHX when the marathon is..

I’ll bring out the 68 Tele- voiced for that with the tapes and bridge mute.
Now….which Combo???? Rumble 40 always sounds good.
Ampeg RB-115?? That might be a bit too much.
I’m going Orange. It does smooth or crunchy!!
Small size, reasonable weight- Yay!!

Johnny Cash, and Richie Valens were mentioned.:bassist:

What a good time!! BL on vocals and guitar, his wife on cello, Dr. Flynn on banjo, drummer Don “Miami Vice” Johnson on drums, and me on bass.

Did some of our old songs-“Gold and Roses” by the Black Lillies, Good Hearted Woman by Waylon Jennings, a few of BL’s originals (Nice- he’s quite talented:thumbsup:)- and worked on a new song he wrote, and the Johnny Cash “Gotta have Rhythm”.

The Orange did quite well! Didn’t need the “blend”, but added a touch here and there !
We shall see if we can get a set together for the school dinner in a couple of weeks…:bassist::bassist:

I forgot the song is called "My Immortal," by Evanescence. Hope ya like it!
I recognized it about 3 notes in. I've always liked this song, and this is a good cover. Seems like before the rest of the band comes in, sometimes the reverb on vocals are just a bit much. Nice bass tone!

Thank, Miles! I’ve got several reverbs to use and am still experimenting with them. It’s really tweaky in that a little isn’t much but a tad too much is a lot! Still trying to find the right setting for her voice. That particular reverb was set between studio and room. Can you imagine hall or stadium?

Thanks again for listening and commenting.

Well, obviously you need to record in the shower w/o reverb.:smug:

Thank ya, Lady M, much obliged. We’re having the time of our lives as we keep coming up with songs from our past we want to try.

One discussion yesterday started with ideas ranging from Maureen McGovern’s “The Morning After” to Noel Gallagher’s “Slide Away,” it’s like kids in the candy store.

Thanks again!
