Yeah, turns out the PJB Dbl 4 is a little cheaper at about $515 (with NJ tax) than the Markbass or the two Elfs (Elves?). But it's still a lot more than the $180 for the Bam200, and it's still a 70w 4" dual speakers rig as opposed to the 200w 1x10 makeshift 'combo' I'm setting up. ~Plus I'll have the pleasure of jury-rigging something together using gear I already possess...

That's one of the problems I have with the PJB stuff. It's almost never on the floor of any of my local music shops where I could give it a listen-to! ~I guess after so much experimentation where I bought stuff based on other's reviews and poorly made video demos, I've grown tired of it and want to play and hear bass gear live now before buying...

I'm a combo-only owner.

Partly it is due to the fact that buying a separate head and cab in this part of the world would cost me nearly double what a similar combo costs. As an example, my GK MB212ii cost me $1600 on sale. They aren't available now here but a GK MB210 is currently $1600 as well. To buy a 500w GK head will cost $1350 and a 210 Neo cabinet is an extra $1500. Unfortunately I haven't had much opportunity to use it since I got it around three years or so ago and it generally sits under a sheet in the studio. I'd really like to use it at volume again but my tinitus is happy it doesn't get much use.

My main combo is a Schertler Bass Fidelity B10 I got around 8 years or more ago.
They are not generally well known for bass amplification but are very well known for their high-end acoustic guitar amps. When I got it they retailed for around $1600 US (around $2400 Australian dollars) but I was lucky enough to get one brand new for only $600 (Aussie dollars). I thought it might be a scam but as it turned out the guy selling it on Ebay was looking at importing them so he got one of each model. The deal fell through so he just wanted his money back and nobody else put in a bid. I'd never tried one so it was a bit of a gamble and I just wanted a small practice amp but it has paid off fantastically.

It is, unsurprisingly, a 10" and tweeter which boasts 300w RMS. It kicks out a surprising amount of volume with no breaking up at all. I have used it on too many gigs to count, generally with folk-rock type bands, but even used it in rehearsals with a 3-piece rock band..... admittedly with a drummer who knows how to play without smashing every hit. It is also used pretty much every day in my studio. The horn hisses a little but I barely notice it unless the room is completely silent. It also has the clearest sounding DI I've ever used. All in all these two combo's will do anything I'll ever need.

I'm with ya. Sometimes you can find a real deal on a head and cab, but it tends to be pretty random, and you might have to buy one and wait until you find the other. Maybe weeks, maybe years.

Honestly, I don’t consider myself a bass player, I am a synthesizer/sound programmer that just LOVE the way a real bass sounds in Electronic Music. I like using synth basses sometimes, but nothing like using a real bass. I maybe a bit crazy, but I own 10 basses and I only record with what you see in the picture, the Fender BASSMAN 150 with the SamsAmp Tech 21 Model GED2112 with a AKG Pro Audio P2 High-Performance Dynamic Bass Microphone. I really love the way this simple combination sounds, it’s very impressive when you hear the results in an final mix. It would be great to hear your opinions about THE SOUND because I see many folks spending thousands of $ buying expensive amps and cabs, and I respect that! But you can REALLY get an amazing sound from a combo if you put a bit of effort in to it. That’s the reason I wanted to post the sound samples. Thank you for listening to them, your feedbacks are always appreciated!

LOL! Always plenty of stuff hanging up on walls but I've yet to see a shelf with PJB {or any gear?} on it at my GC, -or at any of my other local music stores! -Things can get ~knocked~ offa shelves real easily...

LOVE my Bassman 150 combo. Such a rich, powerful sound. Used it for a startup band playing small gigs, then had to move up to the Bassman 250 for bigger gigs. Together, my Bassman 250 + 150 stack could handle anything I needed. But they are heavy! And I was getting old.

I ordered a brand new Rumble 500 combo in 2014 just to find out which of the high-power, low-weight specs were wrong. But, to my surprise, it lived up to all its advertising perfectly!

It's a great world of bass combos these days! Who Can Say NO to Combos?
