The Combo Club

View attachment 3283528 Greetings fellow Combo-ers. Sorry I've not checked in for a while - been busy learning songs!
Having sold my 800w rig because I'd "given up gigging", I saw an ad on Joinmyband looking for a bass player to join some other "mature" guys in a band.
Turned up with my GK MB112 (and Jazz Bass) and got the gig!
"Nothing complicated" seems to be the order of the day, bit of CCR, Bob Seger, Stones, Eagles, Clapton, Steve Earl etc.
As I'm away 2 nights a week on business I've bought another Combo so I can practice in my hotel room instead of sitting in the bar! Sounds surprisingly good, especially with the extension speaker and it fits in my suitcase!
If the band takes off I'll probably buy another MB112 and run them both from the two outputs on my Zoom B3. Over here the 112MBP is no cheaper than the MB112!

Maggs, his the heck have you been? Here I promote toy to head up our European Division and then you disappear in the London fog. GlD you’re back!

Cute couple you’re showing off there. Super idea using the pair for away-from-home practicing. Also, good luck with the new band. What, no British Invasion groups?

Your GK plan is a solid one. Go for it! Report to us as soon as you’re laying down the bottom with your group.

By some chance one of the local brick and mortars sells both Blackstar and Vox. Likely one of them Vox deals waiting for my go-ahead. That's not a today thing today but there is likely a today when it is a today thing. All this as I consider another C4, starting a pedalboard and, you know, actually playing the bass and everything. Which is what I'm doing, hey?

OMG, I actually understand what M is saying here. Is it a sign of sleep deprivation or what? Keep throwing out ideas, M, I enjoy reading them.

Hey all. Just getting seen here to get a combo # ;-) Don't have much to add right now, but HEY! How's it going.. glad to be here, and look forward to discussing various topics in the combo world with you all.

Don't have much to add?!? You just got a new Rumble Stage 800! My dream combo! That says a heckuva lot right there!! Just assume no one here has read your intro thread (though a couple of us have). Tell us about it.

Our Fearless Leader invited you here, and he'll be along to induct you into The Club. Meanwhile, you can make yourself at home here in the Clubhouse. Learn more about us by reading the previous posts and browsing the Combo Club Wiki Page. Get to know the regulars, and the irregulars. We're glad you're here.

Looking forward to your pics and tales! Welcome to The Club.

ICODA, congratulations, you are the Combo Club's 116th member! Should you continue to stay in good standing in the club, glorious days are ahead of you. G-dog, our Sargeant-at-Arms, will greet you in our club's spacious lobby, give you a full tour (make sure to stop by Dr. Cheese's famed Rickenbacker Wine Cellar) including our soon-to-be Virtual Bassist Room. What's that you ask? Oh, nothing more than entering a world where YOU, not John Paul Jones are holding down the bottom end for Led Zep! Or maybe you feel a little English today. Then pop on down to Magg's Brew Pub for a bit of brown ale and be entertained by his weekly guest in an acoustic set. This weekend, none other than Pete Townshend or Eric Clapton...whichever one can hear the phone ring first to score the gig, but I digress...

Welcome aboard, ICODA, and tell your friends about us!

Fearless Leader

Man, you've got this welcome-thing down to a science. Kudos to you and thanks so very much!

Combo club!!! So COOL!!
Eden Nemesis 210 owner. I've had this for 2 decades now. It's a great amp, but I'm getting crackles and buzz lately. I've also come down with GAS pretty bad lately. The thing that made me fall in love with the Nemesis was that it seemed like I could hear every wind on my roundwounds when I played clean. So any suggestions for my next combo? Do I just stay with the Eden family? I've always liked GK too. Of course, the nearby guitar shops only carry Ampeg & Fender, so recommendations are big.

Hi @Jason42 and welcome. Plenty of combo converts here. Someone will have the answers you seek, but I have no personal experience to offer on GK or Eden combos. Just Ampeg, vintage Acoustic (my avatar) and recently Fender. I’ve heard amazing testimony about Eden’s Nemesis line.

Check back with us for answers or go all the way and request your very own club number, I think they’re still issuing the sterling silver club signet ring to the next ten candidates so...:smug:

And virtual raffle tickets for the chance at an invisible club ring so that other combo club members will recognize you on sight. Proceeds from the raffle are earmarked for furthering science in the classroom with driver excursion demonstrations. After the cleanup from the last. Don't cross the beams, it would be bad.

Oooh, Snap! And the award for "Classiest Burn" goes to Lady M for her veiled reference to Fearless Leader's epic science demonstration. Congratulations, Morrighan!

She coulda posted a link, or "The Photo", in a crass, nasty, embarrassing way, as others(?) have done. But, no, she took the high road. And left it for only those in the know to recognize.

BTW, I don't recall seeing the results of any alleged [attempted] cleanup. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

Happy with the sound and portability of my Rumbles.

Always the class clown, I’ll wager...

One day this will pass.

Oh there was cleanup, but no sound upon flipping the switch caused said science teacher to gut interior parts and donate to science, er...to a science student. Strangely, the empty cab continues to haunt my vision on a daily basis as I cannot seem to unload it to unsuspecting nine year olds. It’s like a reminder of past lab failures; the 4 1/2-string bass, the backwards wah pedal named “haw,” and wooden instrument cable. But as I tell my kids, science is like a bad rash, it doesn’t go away. Never say die!!!

Lowdoenthump, as soon as I drag my ragged carcass up from my chair I’ll get you your very own number. Thanks so much for adding your great-looking rigs to our pages. I’m really digging your Music Man P/J bass. Sweet! As Doggie mentioned, make yourself at home, but skip Gone Plaid’s Death by Chocolate brownies in the kitchen/restraining room. I’ve had terrible gas all evening. I’m sorry, TMI? :dead:
