The Combo Club

Not sure how Solstice Eve feels about posing on a bear skin rug, but ... Tracking says her birthday present arrives in today's post.

Well, you how the terrible twos are. They think their 30 and independent. I’d say a big pic would be okay.

And to celebrate SSE today, #2 and I will be sans all clothing today, wearing posies in our hair, and recording “Eye of the Tiger” for the Corona Orchestra using the Ampeg BA-108 v2+. I’ll post pics too! :hyper:

What a day it’s gonna be!

Aack! I didn't intend to stir up anything involving either bearskin nor bare skin! But we're all entitled to practice our own celebratory traditions as we see fit.

I just thought it might be an appropriate time for a tasteful full figure photo of Evey in whatever attire she's comfortable in. With a new birthday present would certainly seem apropos.

Signed,
- A Fan

As of 2001, Sonny Rollins' long-time bassist, Bob Cranshaw, did not use a combo, alas:

I generally use a Gallien-Krueger head and a SWR cabinet when I’m on the road, because everything is rented. And usually when I’m around town I’ll bring my Walter Woods amp, and I can get a nice warm sound from it, depending upon what speaker cabinets I’m driving with it. And if I’m in some place where I’m playing both instruments, then the Walter Woods is the only thing I use. And if I’m playing acoustic upright, I’ll use a combination of the Woods and a mic, to get a proper mix of both sounds.

And that’s the name of that tune. Nicely done, Haroldo!

Reminder to myself: If you want to avoid retinal damage, don't open the CC forums, for the next 5 days.

Hey there, youngster, turning 60 freed me from the worries of doing what The Man wants me to do and/or how to do it. One day you’ll know what I mean. Right now I’m gonna put on some CSN&Y and fly my freak flag!

Kinda chilly with the air on though...

By golly, she was born two years ago on June 20 (Solstice Eve that year), according to the adoption paperwork. As she is today, more or less

There's a birthday present in today's mail, I believe!
Not sure if I like how the natural cotton strap highlights the cream binding better, or how the brown leather strap accentuates the chocolate fingerboard. Either way, a beautiful bass, and beautiful straps!

Who never opened a gift a day early? No CC cheesecake pics without combos. Not dragging the rig outside today without a paying gig. So this is what we have.

Changes to the Chowny CHB-1 since adoption include Gotoh Res-O-Lite 350 tuning machines and La Bella Low Tension Flatwounds. Otherwise stock.

Holy Wow! That is a really beautiful strap!

Where did you get it? I'm still on the look out for 3 more straps to add to my collection.

"A-at la-a-st, . . ." OooOoo! And, is that a new strap, too? I love, love, love it! Though not a matching blue, to my colorblind eyes at least, it does "go with" Miss Eve quite well, I think. Normally I prefer straps to remain more "off the shoulder", but I can make an exception for this one. Just wish there was more ambient light and less glare, maybe? I dunno. But this has a certain mystique to it. I'm enchanted. (socially acceptable whistle?)

And the picture’s caption reads: Morrighan’s current stable of gear. She can be found behind the many cabinets...we think.

OMG, ‘Lizard, next to that Polytone image, your rig looks absolutely demonic...or is that red light?

Oh wait, there’s a second pic. No, it still looks demonic. They are huge, TL. Excellent shape though. How much combined poundage/kilogramage are they together?

Seriously, you look ready to rock a stadium with that setup. Is the pandemic over? :woot:

I’m going back to sleep now...
I'm going to say the whole rig should be about 140lbs. The XC actually doesn't weigh all that much, the combo is the heaviest. Once I add the side handles and get rid of the top strap it will be super easy... both cabs also have removable wheels which makes it a whole lot easier to move about.

The stadium rocking rig happens with the SB500H barely visible in the cab under the Yorky's.... that's an Eden Nemesis 15 in there, which gets paired up with a duo of Basson PA cabinets that have 15's for a grand total of about 1000 watts. (Bassons have a power amp running them). I can reconfigure/rewire 200w, 500w, 800w and 2000w versions of my rig with the gear I have now, so I actually feel like I'm probably ok for amps. 3 basses is the least I've had in a long time though... probably shouldn't go shopping right now

Hello? ... Hello? ... Is this thing on? <squeeEEEEEeeeellll> ... Whoa! ...

Ok. Check one. Check one. ... How 'bout now? Is this Ok? Yeah? Good.

Uh, I just wanted to thank the Combo Club and all its amazing members, and you too, Roddy, ... heheh ... No, I'm just kidding. You're amazing, too, RodRy. I kid. I kid. :D No, seriously I'd like to thank the CC for all the wonderful information and entertainment we've shared, especially in these trying times. :crying: . . . Dang! I promised myself I'd stay strong. (sniff) . . . Anyway, thank you all.

It's been over a year since I got my Rumble Studio 40 and no other new gear, to speak of, since then. But, well, it's been a pretty good birthday and Father's Day (already!) so, I finally ordered something worth sharing here.

And it’s long overdue too, if I might say so. You embarrass me every time I order something because I’m always ordering something. Wait, that didn’t come out right.

Regardless, on behalf of the club I congratulate you on dusting off the wallet and jumping in with the rest of us crazy fools who live to buy gear.

I do have a question though...why on earth did you spend good money on a plastic card? I mean, GP could a loaned you one of his Wendy’s Burger Club cards if that’s all you wanted. Hey, don’t knock it; 10% all singles on Thursdays.

So what ya gonna but, Herr Canine? A combo amp, perhaps? But what do you need or want? If the Studio 40 is enough for worship then what, pray tell, are you thinking about?

I’m not even gonna guess because it’ll probably be wrong anyway. A new bass? Spill the beans, 007 or RR will move next door to ya forever. So what’s it to be???
