Uh, I just wanted to thank the Combo Club and all its amazing members, and you too, Roddy, ... heheh ... No, I'm just kidding. You're amazing, too, RodRy. I kid. I kid. :D No, seriously I'd like to thank the CC for all the wonderful information and entertainment we've shared, especially in these trying times. :crying: . . . Dang! I promised myself I'd stay strong. (sniff) . . . Anyway, thank you all.

It's been over a year since I got my Rumble Studio 40 and no other new gear, to speak of, since then. But, well, it's been a pretty good birthday and Father's Day (already!) so, I finally ordered something worth sharing here.

Doing fine, Mike, for a GOF in isolation :unsure::bawl:. I have to wish all the dads here in the CC a Happy Father's Day for tomorrow. I can't do it tomorrow for fear I will see the photos of you and your Mrs. that you threatened to post...

Good point. She’s worth the price of admission, but me? Lord help ya...

I second SR’s proclamation of wishing all you dad’s out there a very happy one. May your children find something quiet to do so you can get some noodling done. I’m currently trying to figure out acBlack Eyed Peas’ tune and its groove.

"Noodling"?. This could have a few meanings but I am sure you meant bass playing although you could be showing your age :D;).

My original-thinking was bass playing, but at this advanced age (like I have to write down a new tens digit now) ya never know what you're gonna get. For example, I ordered six colorful mini-cables for my board and when I checked Amazon they showed the package was temporarily out. I wondered why I didn't know that and went on to order a package of Fender six-inch cables (nicer quality, I'm assuming) and went to sleep. Woke up this morning and checked my order and now I'm getting both sets of cables! I must have been the last one to get the colored ones, but thanks to my forgiving wife, it's okay. I told her I use the extras down the road (for new pedals). I'm crazy...like a fox! And I'm old.

A while back I posted about the NUX Mighty Plug. I wanted to post that they are now available. I received mine and have played with it a little now. I know it's not a true combo, but it's technically an amp and combines a lot of useful features into a small package. I wrote up a first impression of it, but Talkbass refreshed or something and ate it. It made me sad. I moved over to a text editor for this attempt.

To start, compared to my buzzy Vox Amplug, it's worth it just for the noise gate! With a long press on the main button you change between guitar and bass. Short presses change between presets you edit in the app. The Mighty Plug (MP from here on) has a built in rechargeable battery that charges via micro USB. I wish it was USB C, but I have adapters to work with my USB C cables. There is no physical volume control on the MP. Levels are adjusted in the app. There are three presets for bass. On each preset you can setup a gate, 7 effects, 2 amp choices, 5 cab choices, 6 types of modulation, and 4 types of reverb. You can only pick one amp and cab per preset but multiple effects of each type can be applied. I’m still playing with these but they sound good. A couple might sound a little digital but so do many multi-effects units, right? You set your volume level in the amp section of the app through gain and level sliders and can also change it on the level slider of various effects.

You connect the app to the MP in the app. To use the built in accompaniment though, you also need to go into your phone or tablet's bluetooth setting and pair the MP as a bluetooth audio device. The built in tracks are….there, I guess? A couple seemed OK. The metronome and drum section is separate and didn’t require the double bluetooth pairing. Those loops are more basic and maybe more useful. You can also, while paired, play music from another app on your phone for accompaniment and it will play through the paired MP into your headphones. It’s also supposed to have an option to use it as a recording interface. I haven’t checked that out though.

So far I think it’s probably worth it and is probably the best headphone amp out besides the Phil Jones which I just assume is good but I haven't used it. I don't think this would be useful though if you can't or don't want to use the app. For laughs, I’m going to use an ⅛” cord to plug it into the aux input of an actual combo.

Wow, this version is even longer. TLDR - the NUX Mightly Plug seems like a great option if you need a good silent practice tool with a lot of features.

Nicely written, Pro. I appreciated your enthusiasm about the Mighty Plug. I’ve seen a few of the NUX products and am curious about their longevity. Give us an update in a month or two because I’d like to know how it’ll hold up.

Also, give the interface portion a try if you can. That could be a game changer if it does a nice job with recording.

Just got this today, in beautiful shape for a steal. It's heavy as a box of bricks, but I can't wait to use it...

Count B, so nice to see ya, it’s been too long. Boy, you’ve got an old one there, but it looks to be in fine shape. So how heavy is it? If it’s as heavy as I’m thinking (saw a T-Max or two at GC before), and you want to lift it up onto a 410? Bassie, you are a man of monstrous strength! How’s it sound?
