The Combo Club

As requested, here is my combo, a Rumble 100v3.View attachment 4038062 View attachment 4038063
Or are we looking for a meal combo pack?

Miles, welcome to the Combo Club! You, my Rumble 100 cohort, are now member #216. Please add that to your sig and it'll tell the world you have great taste in your clubs. I'd even recommend, if you're not already a member, joining the Fender Club. There you'll find a whole pack of Rumbler crazies who really know their stuff. Just ask for G'Dog and he'll hook ya up to a great knowledge base. Thanks again for hanging with us cool kids!

Here's my new 500w stack. The 12" combo was bought new last weekend and the speaker underneath was bought used on Wednesday. It's small enough for living room practice but mighty enough for any pub and club in the city. View attachment 4036105

Mick, would you like a membership number to this prestigious club? I can't find a post where I offered to sign you up, so if you're interested let us know. You've already dropped off a great picture of your kin. Thanks!

Here are the mods for my HCT Hofner.

The Revolution pickup surround.

I replaced the stock knobs with some black teacup knobs.

I upgraded the tailpiece to a custom shop tailpiece.

All together!

doc, I 100% approve of all your revisions. Brilliant idea to allow your anchor thumb to slide up and down the pickup ring. I also liked the teacups, of which I'm a sucker for, and that tailpiece looks classy. Way better than what Cort puts on all of their copy basses. I still can't figure what the heck the scrolling is on mine. Well done, sir!

Just curious; why did you drill or punch holes in your picks ?

Thanks. I’ll add it soon. Already in the Rumble Club!

Drilled. They’re grippier, especially if I get sweaty. I’d thought about doing it, then read where some big name guitar player did it, so I tried and loved it. Used a hole punch on my guitar picks but these were too thick for that.

For any newbie bass player looking for an amp, I recommend that you check out this video. I think he has some good advice here.

Would that my amps gift me with all their gravitas just by virtue of being mine

Hey PT, long time no see. Don't worry, me either. I've been barely a ghost haunting these hallways but always enjoy seeing old friends stop by. I've watched this guy before and like his upbeat attitude. Seems to really enjoy the hobby. Made some good points as well. My only disagreement is my Playskool money has been working up to this point...;)

You know, I've posted this here before, speaking of too heavy to lift, but first it has a story

It is the early 80s and by some extraordinary fortune I'm living with a bass player. It's a bungalow in Toluca Lake, California. He made his own neck-through fretless Thunderbird in purpleheart, with an ebony fingerboard.

My band is a New Riders of the Purple Sage-influence jam band with original material. We've got a fun following in fun places. I'm competing with two six-stringers with my Peavey TNT 100. When Fret asks if I would like a cabinet he made, oh yeah, well of course.

A man who creates a Thunderbird out of solid purpleheart is not particularly concerned about weight. And this view of life is carried on in the cabinet. The intent of the cabinet is "indestructible". This largely succeeded until some movers knocked it over on its back and jammed the jack in.

It hung around with me for a long while, serving in other capacities. With actual senior citizen status in palpable reach, found I very literally cannot lift this into my car. Here it is, in its final hours

The Peavey TNT left about the same time in a pay-it-forward agreement for a friend's son. He says it's LOUD.

Future-friendly is some of why I went for the lightweight Markbass. The 2x15 was OK when I was in the band where the guitarist took me to gigs, but was no good in the days of getting everywhere by motorbike and sidecar. The Carlsbro head and a small speaker worked for me then. The head is only 150w and the outboard speaker is 8 ohms. I wanted something louder and the 300w-at-8ohms Mark is lighter than the head and speaker.

You taught me something: I hadn't heard of purple heart wood.

In a certain perspective, it takes a bass player to call a 40 lb / 18 kg combo rig "light". And yet there is still a faint, lingering fondness for the Peavey. My ear has never forgotten the bark of the Stingray at TNT volume

The relic from the time that remains is our band's demo cassette. I could have it burned to CD for a few clams. For now, it stays where it is, inside a suitcase.

Gonna put this here, rumble club, my Build thread and maybe Tape wound club...
Finished my bass. Still adjusting neck and string height, but I love the feel and sound, and no buzz like my Jazz Bass.
Warmoth JB fretless neck, Gotoh tuners and bridge, Bartolini split coils, Golden Age controls and plates. D’Add strings
