I did me own, but my “experimenting” goes back to the 80s when I used to act upon the crazy notions in my head. Kinda still do now and then (attn: Acoustic Combo Suicide)

I’m a champagne tone chaser on a beer budget, but M’s and my little project turned out to be a real winner.

Sorry, another question about this:
How is the stock speaker connected to the cable that connects it to the amp?
Is it a clamp or is there soldering involved?
is it just a matter of:
1. Unscrewing the 8 screws holding the speaker in place
2. Taking the clamp off the old speaker
3. Attaching the clamp to the new speaker
4. Screwing the 8 screws back in to hold the new speaker in place?

(I just carried the cabs to the car! )

While I concur with GP that a lot of it is (or can be) all show, if you're an up-n-coming band playing at a larger venue than usual and the house PA is crapola, you may not be able to run through the system and have to count on your amp/cab rig to not only let you hear yourself but also for your audience to hear ya. There are probably other instances, but most of the time what you have should be enough as long as you're DI'd out. Then your Ampegs are for monitoring purposes only; hence the 60-degree wedge shape.

Just remember, we need to see some pics of your first gig to verify it's fer real.

Seems like when I played small bars, American Legion halls, and parties with underage drinkers, our amps had to carry the sound for everyone. Used to tick off the drummer because he was hitting the skins for all he was worth, but we blew him away. Last gig I did like that I had realized that my trusty Hartke 7000 amp and single Transporter 410 was all I needed. Smaller and lighter than my Carvin 118 cabinet too.

Seems like for the last few years, every place I go has a dedicated PA set up, and sometimes even a house sound guy. Of course, now I can afford to drink and be entertained in better establishments.

Today's another big day so I'm pacing myself.
Here's what's on tap:
The lead guitar/BL, drummer and I are auditioning a guy to play rhythm guitar, sing lead on 1/4 of our songs and back up our female lead vocalist on the rest.
If the guy does well, we have a full band practice on January 1 or 2 with a goal of us all knowing 20 songs.
The song list for today is:
1. Plush-Stone Temple Pilots
2. American Band-Grand Funk Railroad
3. Born to be Wild-Steppenwolf
4. Gel-Collective Soul.
Setup is at 5:30.
Start time is 6:00.
It's only like 20 minutes of material so it shouldn't be too long.
My Mission:
Learn the songs well enough so we're not all distracted by listening to my mistakes and can pay attention to the vocalist/guitarist.

Sounds great! (I'm so jealous. Jealous again.)

I've played through one Markbass(dunno what model). It was someone else's and, out of consideration for him, I didn't f---* with his settings. I was unimpressed. If one was provided in a backline or rehearsal situation, I'd get there early, set everything "flat"/detent, and play with the dials to see if I could get a tone I liked.(I somehow doubt it). It's too 'modern' a sound for me, but I s'pose adjustments could be made to save me the trouble of schlepping my own.

Those are the times, GP, you haul your favorite bass preamp/DI pedal and bypass the Markbass, using only the power amp section. Voila!

Yep, it took Song #51 to get it to sound as if one wasn’t spending an evening in the Boom Factory! Anyway, I blame my Cali connection, SR, for liking bass forward so he could hear it better and I’m one who strives to please my listeners. Is it my fault that I get a bit carried away with prodigious amounts of bottom? (Yes, it is)

I am already a member of Combo club #184 .
Playing a GK brand for more then 15 years now. I moved from heads to combos because of my bad back, and particularly to MB series since it was presented like the lightest on the market.

I am pretty satisfied with MB212-II with 500W, but just wondering what would I get with the latest Legacy or Fusion series. Before MB212-II a played MB210-I for 7 years, and it was great, but next to a loud drummer, I ended up with 500W 212-II. Now I realised that I like 10'' speakers more than 12'', and that could be one more reason to go for Legacy or Fusion with 2x10''.

I saved this reply for last before heading to slumberland. And no, I’m not buying a mattress.

First, I apologize for forgetting you were a member. I’ve been doing that more lately. I never want to not invite someone posting, but with our growing membership it’s getting trickier to keep track of all the unique names.

The MB-series has been a solid line of combos and separates for GK. Though their prices have increased quite a bit compared to even a few years ago, there’s a lot to be said for what the amps offer.

I know with the Fusion you get preamp tubes and a quality build. I haven’t been fortunate to play through one but the reviews make it a winner. I know even less about the Legacy-series, but highly recommend, if you haven’t already, the GK forum on these very pages. I’m sure they’ll give you and others who have asked for more info. It’s all there.
