That’s exactly what I said when I looked over Auld Lang Syne this morning. It’s due in 24 hours and my interest was not in recording it, so I didn’t. 2021 is the year for playing what you want and to heck with the rest. I’ll wait for the next rocker.

I had a DOD gate with my setup for a few years. I don't use it any more, not since fitting a humbucker single. I now have two Ibanez SR300Es. The active electrics are more or less noise-free even on single coil setting, unless I put the overdrive up high. The battery lasts months with an hour's playing daily. Actives have fewer windings, meaning less or no noise. The tiny preamp brings the signal up. It also gives a much wider range of tones, much like having your head's EQ on your bass. I was unsure about going active, but I'm sold on it now.

Picked up a '75 Twin Reverb for my guitar but I'm also using it to record bass as well. I rebuilt the whole amp. New fiberglass eyelet board and rewired it with the Ab763 circuit. I love the sound of a bass through this amp. Seriously considering picking up a 2nd one and converting it to a head for another bass rig

Yeah I tried it through the 2 12's that are in the combo and it sounded great. So I hooked it up to a bass cab with 2 1

I love the tone. I play in a hard rock band and love the Tool/Justin Chancellor clean pronounced tone. Which is really easy to achieve on these old Fender amps.

Yes, I have both active and passive basses. While I like the quiet of the active models, they seem to have lost a certain je ne sais quoi compared to passive pups. Closest comparison is my active Carvin with Jazz pups compared to my passive Squier Jazz. They both sound good, but the active circuit is a different sound from the passives. Edit: Also, it's nice to not worry about batteries.

Considering that my Jazz was only $200, I can afford to upgrade it.

I'll check out some noise gates, and see what pickup swap demos I can find.

I used Barts split coil JB pups on my build. No hum. I actually prefer the tone to my fretless mim JB. But have not really ‘compared’ for the differences. $170 for the pair as I recall from SW. easy install

JPD, how are ya? Hope you had a nice holiday. How's the weather down south? We're about to get a little of the white stuff this afternoon, possibly, and then another bout of snow, rain, and ice on Tuesday. I'd take 85 degrees sitting outside the cantina.

As I said over in the short scale thread- I really don’t have a dog in the fight. I enjoy my 34” scale Yamaha 5er because out of everything I’ve played, that neck and length felt the best. However- I’m 6’6” tall, and do not have to stretch at all to reach the first fret. My handspan covers ten keys (1 1/4 Octaves), so the width isn’t really a big deal either.

I see and play my 34"-5er as an extended short scale. I live under the 5th fret and once in a while I visit the extended range... call it laziness but for me the most pleasant way to go.

Same for me and my 5er. Once I started looking at it that way, it was far easier to play.

We are doing well here. At 6200’ elevation, we are in the low 40’s at night, clear sunny 75-80 days. Should be below freezing at night next week. I will be sure to pick that mandarin behind me before it freezes! I did a short ride today on my BMW, great day! Bars are closed here but Open Mic just restarted! May try to sit in on bass, mostly geezer folk gringos left...(me included on the geezer....Butler?). After inoculation, we hope to head state side in the Spring to get us an Airstream to visit grand kids and friends. Take the bass I built or the acoustic Michael Kelly? May need one of those mini 5” bass combos!
