Two chrome columns on a vintage Peavey is only now an attention-getter, what's with that? Totally never, ever expected anyone to say, hey that's a cool Peavey. Not in this universe. And now that thing is cool. Huh.

Is this what you're talking about? No, that's not my hazy purple coil cord! Heck, this ain't even my photo, but I have a 115 cab like this. Maybe I should get help to haul it out more often, if it's cool now. It's just that I don't know what it's rated for. When I was given it I was told, "here's a bass cab you can have" and all my questions were met with looks as if I was speaking a foreign language. Maybe it's hot!?!. It says "8 ohms" on the back, but that's all I know.

You can put a Peavey Combo on it for thunderous power! And yes, Peavey silverfins were always cool. During the late 70's and throughout the entire 80's and into the 90's we played Peaveys (among other amps) and we were an excellent touring band. Never were we embarrassed by our gear because people never judged us by our gear. So yeah, Peavey has ALWAYS been cool. At least the 80's stuff.........

I have put a Rumble 500 combo on it before but, I was afraid to turn up the thunder because of it's, uh, "vintageness" (since I oppose age discrimination) of a time when 250 watts may have been too much.

Whether I like their current practices or not(not), they were always built tough. Plug in the 500 and start low then bring it up. My Kasino is 48 y/o and I can't turn it more than about 1/3 before it's LOUD(or LOUD*). And that's with the original 2x15s.
*as in rattles plates on the wall, vibrates stuff offa shelves

'Dog, you've got me so confused that I can't tell if you're coming or going. My pappy used to warm me that, "Too much Peavey too soon in a young man's life would ultimately doom him." I think we can finally see that. Pray for G-Dog, everyone!

But $79 seems a bit steep.

That's the Amazon price, which does seem awfully high. GC has it for three bills. Same product. It looks interesting.

The true scale of the MV50 didn't hit me from these pix. But visiting my first Sam Ash this week and seeing some Vox MV50s in person did!! WOW! Those are tiny amp heads!! It must look weird to hear such big sound generated by them.

Yeah, for sure. I just plugged it into a Peavey 410 yesterday and it shook the store even though it was at 8ohms and therefore only 25 watts. The tone wasn't great, though. Not as good as my Peavey and Vox hybrid. I have one Eden 110 8 ohm cab at home and will likely add another, unless I can be convinced otherwise by my combo mates. There is an Avatar 115 cab that I could purchase and then have a 215 stack. So it is either a 115 + 210 (Peavey, Vox and 2 x Eden) or a 215 (Peavey, Vox and Avatar).

Thoughts?

Drive the head from a pedal EQ / overdrive of your choice? Guessing you'd need a pedal for a DI anyway.

That 2x15 stack is what every gigging bassist in the 70s etc lived by. Today I look at the 2x15 with a mixture of memories of stairs and memories of just how fun it is.

In my case, I look back to the '60's and don't recall problems with stairs and a 2-15 cab but, I was much younger then and, it was a lot of fun! Even helped with the Hammond B3 and Leslie. Today, I think I could handle the 200 Combo with 1-15 Cab. Would love to try it. The Hammond with Leslie would be a no go ...

I would think that two, 1-15's would be preferred if you have gigs that don't require two...less to carry, easier on your back IMHO. In my case, I already have a Combo 200 with 1-15 and a 1-15 cab. If I had a 200 or 500 head, I would still prefer two 1-15 cabs.

Personally my perfect combo would be slightly larger than the Vox head, as loud as a fridge, and the tone as velvety as a bubbling cheese fondue (with a nice Riesling).

Somewhere inside me there is still the part of me who wants a Kustom tuck 'n roll anyway. Because I still recall seeing others with that rig and that is me with my Peavey and ....

But back in the day, when I was attempting to make a career at music, I couldn't afford anything but a big rocking combo Roland 100 watt 118). Now I make good money and want a BIG RIG! It could get some actual use some day. It will certainly scare tthe guitarists, which is part of the point, but it's mostly due to self-satisfaction. So my options are 210 and a 115 or 215! Hard decisions!

I love the looks of a Kustom tuck'n roll but wouldn't want to move it around. I had a Peavey Bass Combo 300 and a separate Peavey 1-15 Cab...both Black Widows. At over 120 lbs., I sold them for what I have now. Sound-wise, the Rumbles are great and a lot easier on the back. But, like everything else, YMMV . I have yet to compare mine to a cheese fondue with a nice Riesling because I don't particularly either .

Depending upon on the power of the amp you are using (or plan to use), any of the options you state can work. The more power, the more you need to consider an HPF, taking into account the basses you have and the ratings on the speakers you choose.

This is the Kasino 252-in the middle-(2x15, 200w)previously mentioned. It's now my 'practice' amp 'cos I'm not about to move that thing ever again. Oh, bottom left is the Peavey bass amp I referred to b4 as my backup. The one on the right is the 35 y/o keyboard amp also previously mentioned. I had a rolled and pleated Kustom with 1-15(and original cover!)but I sold it and bought the R200c.
