Of course it'll happen again. As long as there's an "us" group and "them" group we'll be happy to pointlessly murder each other. Question is, will we prevent it when we can? If there's a profit involved I bet not.

Whilst we can't discuss the details, suffice to say that, IMO, that is a very ignorant comment which could only be made by someone who doesn't really know much about the actual situation in the area or is so biased they simply don't care.

Hitler and Stalin were cut from the same cloth. Each murdered millions. Interesting period of history for sure.
You're being very kind by saying "if", remember that most things that are important to you, specially in history, arent so important, if any, to nowadays kids.
BTW i dont think America nor Europe are in the safe zone about ethnic cleansing or holocaust, dont you guys remember the popular hyteria sorounding the september 11 events?
Depends on what you mean by "something like the holocaust."
If you're talking about an organized, massive-scale ethnic cleansing, probably not.
If you're talking about a whole lot of people dying in a very short amount of time, probably.
Not so fast.
It happened in Rwanda in 1994. Estimates are at least 500,000 (up to 800,000 to 1,000,000) ethnic Tutsis at the hands (and machetes) of the Hutus.
There was a genocide in Cambodia in the mid/late 70's - not an ethnic one but a political one mainly against anyone educated and/or well-off (and many who weren't).
It will probably happen again though probably not in the US, W. Europe and other places where hate isn't taught.
Theres the Rwandan genocide and Saddam's extermination of the Kurds. I have a feeling that its going to happen in Palestine next. Many actually feel that it is happening right now.
Pseudo-political thread notwithstanding, I must disagree with Mr. Latimour's assertions concerning Israel's policies with regard to Palestine.

Pseudo-political thread notwithstanding, I must disagree with Mr. Latimour's assertions concerning Israel's policies with regard to Palestine. In a nutshell, modern colonialism is alive and well; one need only do some reading to learn more.
A little reading informs me that Palestine was under colonization from Jews from the 1880's to the 1940's due to the Jews being subject to pogroms and systematic genocide. During the holocaust, most European countries were turning away fleeing Jews. Settling in Palestine was one of the very few viable options. This is not an opinion, but rather historical fact, and it's critical to understanding the current state of Israel.
The OP asks if the holocaust could happen again. The answer is yes, and it can easily happen right in Israel with millions of Jews being exterminated. Israel is a country 263 miles long and only about 100 miles wide on average and its nearly 6 million Jews comprise about 3/4 of the population with the rest being mostly Arab citizens.
This is a a very tiny country surrounded by numerous, vast countries of hundreds of millions of people who mostly hate them for religious reasons and many of them would be overjoyed to see the Jews at least removed from their continent and quite an alarming number who would prefer they be exterminated once and for all. Some of the neighboring countries even have these goals as official state policy.
IMO, the potential exists for a repeat of the holocaust and the complex set of circumstances that prevents it from happening is in a precarious position.
Ahhh, the mighty straw man argument rears its head. What, may I ask, are my alleged assertions concerning Israel's policies?
I do, however, stand by my last sentence regarding reading up.
