The MIJ Club

Here's my two MIJ Fenders - Ignore their Chinese cousin with the custom Krylon blue finish with matching headstock...

You all recognize the Geddy Lee. The other is a Precision Lyte that I just picked up last night. I'm still getting to know this one, but I can tell you it is super comfortable to play and it sounded great at band practice last night.

I used to have these 2:

Now, only this remains:

Just a couple of questions from a noob. Do they still make new MIJ or CIJ Fenders? If so what are they.

Yes. Many of the Fender "artist models" (maybe all of them?) are made in Japan. The Geddy Lee Jazz bass and the Marcus Miller Jazz are a couple of very popular models and are both made in Japan and should be available in every Guitar Center.

It seemed that none of the basses I have seen are active.

The P Lyte I posted above is active, as is the Marcus Miller. There are also MANY models that are produced for the Japanese market that can be purchased over the internet. They make a lot of stuff, I'm sure they have a few other active basses.

A bad pic of a great bass...

An '88 MIJ Jazz I've had since new. I've dropped DiMarzio Model J's in it, changed the pickguard to red tortise (among others!), added chrome tele knobs, & sanded the lacquer off the back of the neck. A kick ass bass that I'll never sell.

Here's an older "group shot" with it at the forefront.(I've since added more to the stable...)

Yup, almost all of my gear is from Japan, except my Music Man cab, and my Hartke combo. Oh, and the Squier P.

When I was ordering my '70RI P I thought the capri orange was a "strange" colour.

But I've seen pics of yours on talkbass before and with the tort guard it looks really cool. Something different, very nice.

Thanks. I admit that it was very strange with the stock white pg. Tort gave it more character IMHO. Also it has aged a little bit and looks better.

Nice. That looks exactly like the P Lyte that I just picked up. Because I bought from a pawn shop, I really don't have any info about it. The only thing I know about it is that based on the s/n it appears to be a 1985 or 1986.

Can you, or anybody out there really, tell me what type of body wood that is? I've been curious about that.

can anyone tell me what the website is to that place in japan that sells fenders with other makes too.. when you go on the site it has some funky japanese music playing..like ancient type music...i can't remember what it is...any help much appreciated...i know they had awsome deals!!! thanks
