The Official MARUSZCZYK CLUB!

Does anyone have a picture of Blueburst Marus... bass? I'm not 100% if configurator matches reality here.

Here's blueburst in a satin finish.

That is one sleek, sexy bass!

How do you find the sound from the Delano Xtender P/J configuration?

I'm considering this exact pickup configuration for my next Maruszczyk bass (it looks like you went for the Xtender humbucker for the bridge pickup with the mini switch for serial/single coil/parallel - which is exactly what I was thinking of going for). I'm after the closest thing to being able to get both P Bass & J Bass sounds & everything in between & this looks like the best option.

Is that a Maple Burl Top & did you go for the Noll 4 band preamp (I have it on my Jazzus & I'm really happy with it)?

I absolutely love the pickups in passive mode. Extremely convincing P tone and the bridge Xtender can do everything. I went with the Delano Sonar 3MS/E pre and it's great but really gives a modern tone to the bass. It's not bad but definitely gives a unique twist to its tone, very hard to explain actually.

The top is poplar Burl and I picked out the top.

Does the headstock still have the usual Maruszczyk angle, which usually doesn’t require the string retainer, or did you ask for a non-angled headstock?
If it does have an angle, what does the retainer bring, when the design doesn’t usually need one?
I ordered and received my Elwood C [i.e. the more traditional one] in the last half of 2021.
I didn't ask for a non-angled headstock. I assumed I was getting "the usual Maruszczyk angled headstock" but I wasn't fussed either way.
The couch shots showed the bass was a non-angled headstock with no string retainer.
When I was sent the couch shot, I was also asked what type of string retainer I wanted - the trad button, or one of the Hipshot 2/3-string options. I chose 3-string Hipshot.

Based on this, I suspect the default headstock delivered from Mensinger's workshop is non-angled these days - for Elwood Cs and Jakes, at least. Then Adrian adds the string retainers at his place.

My couch shot didn't have a retainer but it came with one. I emailed Adrian and he said he inspects every bass and will add one if he feels the bass needs it when he plays it. He also said it depends on the neck wood chosen if they do an angled headstock or not. Mine is roasted maple which they won't do an angled headstock with if the wood they source isn't thick enough for it to be stable at an angle. He said mine was 20mm thickness which is what they use for roasted maple and would need to be thicker which they don't source.

The same goes with the top thickness when it comes to having recessed control knobs also. My recent Elwood L short scale did not have the recessed control knobs in the top wood like I was expecting it to have but my spalted Maple top does not look that thick. Randy just confirmed with me this week that it was because of my top not being thick enough from what Adrian told him. Kinda wish they would let us know about these changes when choosing a top or in the case of the string retainer, the neck wood. I am still happy with how my Elwood turned out though.

Is Adrian away from his office ? I've sent him a mail a few days ago about the bass pannel and he hasn't replied yet.. Hope the pannel's coming on next week...

He might be. I am waiting on Randy from Bass Spotlight to hear back from Adrian with some pics of quilted Maple tops and Randy asked Adrian on Tuesday for them and he hasn't responded back yet with them. Hoping to hear something by today or Monday hopefully.
