I recently got my bass, and yeah the shipping weight was similar to yours and considerably greater than the final weight of the bass.Hey, that's my new bass...It's expected to arrive next Thursday. I honestly can't wait!
**I am a little concern of the weight at the moment. I know I am being a bit paranoid, but FedEX has the entire package listed as 9kg in total, that's 19.84lbs! I sincerely hope there is at least 10.5lbs of package material and gigbag weight in it. I meant I did specifically ask/pay for Swamp Ash body "hoping" for a reduced weight.

Same. I went with alder and maple, no direction on weight preference. Still came in below 8 lbs. I have to imagine a headless swamp ash body would be super light.
I ordered a Elwood L Headless Bass. I'm wondering if the stock gig bag is ok. I'm pretty picky on Gig bags because I fly often and want something that protects well but is easy enough to get on Plane. Spending extra on something that I probably will switch out seems like a waste. Is it worth it to get the GBBS or to just get Standard and switch to tried and true Mono Vertigo or RB Aero case.
Mine actually may be the last few Maruszczyk instruments built with Swamp Ash. When I ordered my bass 6 months ago it was still an option on the web site.
Adrian isn't offering them anymore, only regular Ash (I am guessing maybe Northern European Ash??). It's understandable since Swamp Ash are getting quite rare these days, even Fender is substituting them with Pine.

The stock gig bag is just alright. I use a Mono so I wasn’t worried about getting a nice one, but the stock economy bag is pretty much a sleeve with two external pockets.
My impression of their standard gig bag was quite good. But I wasn't comparing it to a Mono, I was comparing it to some much cheaper gig bags I have had, some of which were little more than bass-shaped fabric with a zipper on it. Calling it "a sleeve with two external pockets" is a little unfair IMO, but again, I'm not comparing it to a Mono.
Their standard gig bag is basic, but is a good bag and does have a little padding. Their upgraded gig bag is nicer and has better padding/support but not nearly as good as other options for the price.
Here’s the standard, I use it for my Cazpar around town and to store it.

A much better deal (IMO) than this and out of the others mentioned is this Roadrunner Guitar case. On sale <$70 it has better support, padding and way more storage. I have a Mono and this is much preferred over it.

That bag looks comfy enough to take a nap in.
I use the standard bag and one time dropped my bass from about four feet onto the parking lot. The bag did its job just fine.

I have been thinking of getting a hard case for my Frog. Have any of you used one that you can recommend?

Would've liked something a bit more constructive but that's ok.

All, I plan on reading through all 360 pages over the next few days, but a few questions...
Long story short, have been thinking about ordering a custom bass and didn't realize so many builders have 2-3+ year wait times. Ouch. Dingwall, Adamovic, Moollon... so many seem to be in the 2+ year range.
So I stumble upon the Maruszczyk thread here and think hey, here's the bass I can't pronounce, I know I've seen some European guys play them, remember they sound great, so I check them out online... holy smokes, they're beautiful!
And double holy smokes, they look super affordable for what they offer (like half the price of a typical boutique).
So, some questions --
Maruszczyk doesn't appear to have his/their own site. Do they have a US distributor?
General quality, fit/finish, etc -- I'm assuming very good? Better than top of the line production Fender?
Speaking of production, is Maruszczyk a 'production' bass or custom-build only?
Finally, most important question -- what's the wait/build time like?
I gotta say, as mainly a Jazz guy, the Elwood checks practically every box for me (except for maybe wanting a nitro finish, which isn't a big deal). So I assume I was gonna start dreaming of my perfect Elwood, until I saw the Jazzus. As an even bigger Wal fan, when I watched the Jazzus video -- completely floored. This is it! Now how the heck do I decide which one to buy first? How do I tell the wife I need two basses?
And for my American tongue -- how do I pronounce Maruszczyk? "Mar-uh-sheck"?
