Hi bass brothers , just to tell you that I' soon getting an Mtd 635 from ABT!!! So glad to get this bass and to soon belong to the Mtd family
Here is the description from ABT
MTD 635-24 flamed ash body/ burled walnut top, flamed ash neck/ birds eye maple fingerboard, matching peg head veneer and truss rod cover, MTD "the world" logo, matching wooden knobs, MTD custom hardshell case. Serial #2063
You can see the pictures on Glenn's website
Tell me what you think and if someone with same wood can give me some review or thoughts about my wood combo
Thanks!!!
Lucky! That bass is absolutely gorgeous.
Glenn's description from his website:
"This 635 has a big, powerful, growly, clear, and broad attack. It has very quick focus, and has excellent MTD articulation. The trueness and sonority of its low “B” is unsurpassed. This is a potent wood combination for finger style playing as notes are big, broad, and powerful. They remain that way all the way up the neck. Its tremendous growl and aggressive demeanor are perfectly suited not only to “sit” perfectly in a busy mix, but also powerful enough to “stand” on, and easily stand out in that mix if necessary.
Sometimes its not easy to convey the degree of just how powerful an instrument this is. Its notes don’t just cut thru… they “punch thru” . More like a broad fisted boxer than a knife like cut. Yes, we’re talking “moving some air.” Still, I cannot over emphasize that this instrument is very controllable, very articulate, quick, and surprisingly responsive. One doesn’t have to “overplay” it to get it to speak as its dynamic range and speaking voice are quite impressive.
Chords are clear, and with consistent timbre and perfect size to the “body of the notes”. Closely voiced chords are clear, and substantive. Never becoming shrill nor brittle.
Slapping, yields typically excellent MTD results. Because of its selection and combination of woods its notes “explode”, and sound very clearly and percussively with typical MTD “sparkle”. Alternating between fingerstyle playing, and slapping can easily be achieved without having to adjust tone or pickup blend settings. This bass just has that right combination of woods, and an inherent voicing that is unique and versatile.
It’s not just a “workhorse”… but a “pretty face”, and with Its flamed ash neck and body, selected from our private stock, its incomparable walnut burl “10” top, “stylish” matching wooden knobs, embellished with an MTD “the World” logo… she’s ready to go “dancing”."
What Glenn wrote on his website should be very accurate
Congratulations on your MTD!![]()

I'm used to use elixir strings do y'all think that they will sound good on this bass ???
I 1/2 disagree with Cameron. I agree the MTD strings sound great on these basses, and are what I use most typically... BUT... I disagree with his "NO" about the Elixirs. I do think the Elixirs would also be really great for someone who didn't want as much uber snap on the high end. These basses are known for the fairly strong crystalline high end. Not everybody is into that much zing up top. Some folks address this with nickel strings, and I've also heard others address it with coated strings... both in the Elixir type as well as strings such as the colored DR's... and really like the results.I'm used to use elixir strings do y'all think that they will sound good on this bass ???

IMHO/IME anyway.
Thanks for your insights y'all !!!
I' gonna try both, the point is that elixir strings last during a long time!!
Is it the case for the mtd strings ??? (or DR???)
As it was said before, this wood combo just let you know when the strings are dead !!

FWIW, I have always had good results and long life out of MTD stainless rounds.
Just a heads up for folks on the MTD USA thread... I'm taking a look at my Marilyn, and wondering if I can part with it. PM me if you would be interested before I might put it up in the for sale forums. It'd be a no-trade kinda' deal tho.
No, but I could be sellin' it...Call the paramedics - Vic's losing it!!!
