I'm running a Yorkville XS800H through my 1212L.

I love the sound of it, which I'd describe as sensitive and warm. I really don't have much to compare it with though as this is my first major rig, but all the other cheap stuff I've played through through sounds dead in comparison.

Only issue I have with the Yorkville is the weight, it is almost as much as the cab. With a cab this light it feels like I should have a micro head. Maybe one day, but I wanted the tube preamp.

I am amazed at the volume this rig puts out, I mean I never get to 10 o'clock. The thought of turning it up louder scares me, such a small cab should surely explode I'd think, but I guess it can handle it?
 
I think what Dave is asking is will it get loud without compressing.

Yeah. I know these cabs can take the input but im asking whether there is an output level difference between, say a LMII at 500watts and a power amp at 1000watts.
I guess hitting almost max output on the amp will also sound compressed so its not clear cut.
Alex Clabber explained to me in another thread about this.
I was going to get a power amp to increase my volume and he pointed out that although the cabs were rated for a higher output it didnt mean they would be that much louder. Or something like that.
 
Since loudness is not a linear scale either the above link does not tell the whole story. What I believe this gentleman is trying to explain is that 3db is equivalent to doubling the power.

IIRC 2x power = +3db = noticeable differnce in volume
+10db = twice as loud

Then again, I could be very wrong.
 
If 100 watts is a starting volume, it looks like this...

100 watts = nominal
200 watts = +3db (noticeable volume change)
400 watts = +6db
800 watts = +9db
1000 watts ~ +10db (double volume perceived)

This is all relative, with the caveat that doubling wattage doesn't always produce double volume due to limitations on the speaker. Example, a little 1x10 cabinet might take 100 watts and be at capacity. If you try to put 1000 watts into it, it won't double the volume...it'll likely blow up.

This is a good illustration in why it's important to have the right cabinets and amount of speakers to get the volume you want, rather than get all hung up on power. Putting 500 watts into a good 410 or two will give way more volume than putting 1000 watts into some little 210.
