Thanks. I'm one of the people who likes Gibsons. I don't think they make the SG in any other color these days - it is a looker, that's for sure. But I've actually never taken it out. I'm always taking the J5 or the Reverend, which are really versatile.
Oops, I did it again (and again). I've added two more basses to the fold. Two FrankenJazz basses built from sourced pieces/parts. #8 is my natural fretless jazz w/blacked out components. #9 is an active Jazz as I didn't have one of those yet. Yesterday, my wife told me she thinks my bass collection is reproducing like rabbits. Then she saw a bunch of boxes sitting on the porch and I got the look. 
What's a guy to do but put them all together!
#9 started with picking up an Audere JZ3 preamp in the TB classifieds. I was going to throw it in my (mostly) #1 Squier VM Fret(Ted) Jazz but shortly after buying it, I stumbled upon a Squier VM '77 maple neck with black blocks and binding (70's Fender slide was a plus) that sent me down a different path. Found a black jazz body and had enough extraneous pickups/pickguards/bridges lying around that I ended up building this last night...and it sounds massive. Granted, It was around 12:30am when I completed it so I didn't play it a whole lot. Just enough to test the preamp controls and make sure it was functional. Anyway, I present bass #9.
On the (messy) bench:
Body shot: It turned out a bit Geddy'ish. I may need to add a Badass bridge to it along with a pair of Geddy pickups I have in bass #8 (below)
And here's Bass #8: This fretless neck has been on most every jazz bass I have. I install it, find a nice fretted neck, swap it out, start over. I found a great natural body, again in the TB Classifieds, and picked up a black aluminum Hipshot Type A bridge and Black Wilkinson tuners. I actually painted the control plate (poorly I might add..) to match and it didn't come into it's own in sound or appearance until I installed a set of Squier VM Fret(Ted) Jazz which makes it sound really warm and mwaaa'ish and looks absolutely killer with the blacked out components. Of course, I may still have to swap the pickups between these two but only after I play it for a while and see how they sound.
Both have Dunlop Dual Design straplocks and they each have a Walker & Williams strap. I really like their straps for quality and cost.
