^^ nice, but the orange thing in the bottom is annoying & not sure if I like the reflection in his eyes.

Some new things, I'm not sure if these are keepers...quick & dirty scans, little pp.

Thanks for the comment. The orange thing is the top of his cup. I didn't like it either but I wasn't willing to crop that close to his chin. I'm pleased with the pic otherwise and I like the reflections in his eyes.

I really like this shot. Went out shooting today. I am very much still green when it comes to photography and seem to have trouble with composition. If anyone could critique these particular photos, or give any insight for composition I would greatly appreciate it. I know what I like to shoot, but capturing it in a compelling way is tough sometimes.

For starters, symmetry is very appealing to humans, but most of the time, it looks boring in a picture. Shifting the subject slightly to the left or right adds tension and generally makes your picture more interesting.

Also, when shooting, try following the borders of your viewfinder, and think 'do I want this in the picture or not'?

In your first picture there's no context & you're too close imo

Second: much better, further away & some context

Third & fourth picture; same problem as one

Fift: much better, see the second picture

Sixt: cool, the symmetry works here, but the red and white cone on the right just screams to be used in an interesting composition.

And that cone makes it interesting for me: it breaks the symmetry. That's what I like: it seems symmetrical but it isn't really, also due to the irregular pattern of the beams.

Crank up your ISO, shoot in RAW, and the noise reduction in Lightroom is amazing.

If you're serious about upgrading lenses, I highly recommend the Canon L-series lenses. I have two, and my 24-105 f/4L has become my favorite lens. But glass costs $...
