Is anybody else here in the Sandberg bass video competition? Or following it? It's not the I need the bass (I play a Warwick after all) but more exposure would be a blessing, so the more youtube Likes I get by April 15 the better I'll place.

I'm playing my new Star Bass Pro again, as well as playing drum sounds on the box that it came in.

Sounds great acoustically. Haven't plugged her in yet.. don't have a proper amp at the house. I've got a new set of strings on the way, so I'm really looking forward to hearing that growl!

I just bought my first Warwick this past saturday. It's a used 2005 corvette $$ 5-String. I got it for $600 of my local classifieds. I think I got a good deal. The body has a bunch of dings on it from the previous owner standing it up on the floor I guess. I sent it out to my guitar tech guy for a clean up and setup. I'll post pics when I get it back on thrusday. I have a gig friday night so I'll be trying it out then. Anyway, I just wanted to say Hi to all the fellow warick owners out there.

The body has a bunch of dings on it from the previous owner standing it up on the floor I guess. I sent it out to my guitar tech guy for a clean up and setup. I'll post pics when I get it back on thrusday. I have a gig friday night so I'll be trying it out then. Anyway, I just wanted to say Hi to all the fellow warick owners out there.

I'd get a few practices down before going live with it. When I switched to wicks I had to change the way I held it and the way it hung. Very different from fender type. Just takes some getting used to, and the 1st position can be a stretch.

That's probably a smart idea. I'll probably just take it with me for a backup.

I've got a 2006 $$5. I use it with flatwound strings. Originally, Iused Sadowsky black label medium gauge and they were nice. I dented the large strings by knocking it off its stand on stage and tried Daddario chromes and have kept them ever since.

You'll find it very versatile. I lovethe solid feel and the one word I use to describe the tone is BOMP.

The pickup balance, EQ and the phasing switches and where you play it with right hand creates a world of options and sounds.

I'm a former owner of a 97 Thumb NT 5, and a 2003 SSII 5, both of which I regret selling terribly. Looking at all these sweet Warwicks makes me want to get my hands on another!

Yes. The only competitor is a fretless on TB with bubinga body for 500 for some inexplicable reason. I paid 1085 for the 2006 new in 2009.

Had the chance to use the Thumb at band rehearsal the other night, with a fresh set of Ernie Ball Slinkys. The sound is incredible, just as I remember it from my old Thumb NT 4: super tight, compressed, punchy, amazing midrange growl. We tune down a half-step and that low Bb speaks just as clearly as any other note on the neck.
Ergonomically, well, I knew what I was in for. I've got a 4" wide Italia leather strap on the way. And the 26-fret neck will take a little getting used to. Between that and the way the bass hangs, those notes at the 12th, 15th, 18th fret are in a very different place than they are on my Fender! But it's all good. The Thumb is like a woman who's a bit high-maintenance and can be difficult to deal with, but ultimately it's worth it for that tone! And I feel like I own a work of art, which is cool to have alongside my P-bass.

There have been SO many nice 'wicks coming out lately...The Custom Shop is off the hook! At NAMM, it was the Star Bass II that really had my attention. WOW!

I recently added a new old stock '06 Streamer Jazzman 5 string to my collection. It's red and looks fantastic with the gold hardware. My only complaint is it is a year where they used a thicker, baseball bat neck, so I will be having that thinned at some point.

I have always played Fender, with one venture into EBMM territory. The EBMM was sold because I don't slap and can't play a five string and the fingerstyle tone was somehow inferior to the tone I get out of my '04 Fender MIA Jazz. I have always and still love the Fender jazz tone, but this fusion band I started playing with is so rich with harmony that the Jazz is buried and sound like pure mud. The rhythmic content is so complex that I have to be heard because I am the only one playing that part. I was looking for something other than the Jazz. I never had problems with the Jazz before, but the context of this band really requires something with way more presence and authority. I had remembered trying a WW thumb bo 5 at my local GC, long before the fusion band opportunity came up. GC had one used and one of the sales guys was making a huge deal about how punchy this thing is (typical ). He asked me to humor him and try it. All I remember was thinking two things: "stupid B string" and "wow this guys is right, this thing IS super punchy" I walked away from it, but somehow the experience stuck. I was having trouble with my bass lines being heard and the band leader saying "turn it up" while listening back to live recordings. Truth is I was already too loud at stage volume and that wasn't the problem. One time I spent an hour with my EQ (Aguilar DB680 dual full parametric EQ on that baby) trying to get the bass to sound good with the band in the room, couldn't do it. Needless to say I was already frustrated with the mix at our fourth show was the final straw. I found a used 2002 Warwick Thumb BO 4 (ovangkol) for cheap and bought it, remembering my experience at GC. I love it! My Fender seriously feels like a cheap 2x4 compared to this thing! I still like the Fender sound for a lot of other music, but I feel like the Warwick can handle some variety. Not only does it have the presence I need in the mix, but I actually can play it better because I can hear what I'm doing! Warwick makes amazing instruments, this is the second one I've played and it is as good as the first.
